Virginia Tech: A Tragedy
Over at Six Degrees of Inspiration, I have been writing about the Virginia Tech tragedy that claimed the lives of 33 individuals. After the initial shock, I think the more overwhelming feeling was that of sorrow, anguish, and deep sadness. There have been speculations floating around for the last 24 hours or so, but until a full investigation can take place, we won’t know for sure what the clear motives were of the gunman.
But we do know more about the victims, the heroism of some students and even some professors, as they gave up their lives to save other students. In these times, politics almost takes a backseat to the more pressing questions of ones faith and a sense of our own mortality.
The Virginia Tech shootings will undoubtedly have a deep impact in America’s population, but as I write over at Six Degrees of Inspiration, 7 of the 33 who died in the tragedy were immigrants or foreign citizens, which makes the impact on the rest of the world even more great.
So, let us pray for the souls who have passed, and look for a brighter tomorrow for the families and friends who are feeling their grief at the loss of their loved ones. Let us also pray for the shooter himself, because if there was one thing that we learned from the attempted assassination of the Late Pope John Paul, forgiveness is our own choice that we must make in order to heal and move forward.
The most important thing we can do now, is to seek healing, and not seek the blame. There will be a time for everything, and looking for a brighter tomorrow is all we can do at this point.
