Mouse-eating Plant is Native to The Philippines
In an article last October, Lyon, France, It was reported that there was a plant that actually ate a mouse. Obviously it’s a carnivorous plant, but the most amazing factoid relating to this article? The plant is native of The Philippines. The article goes on to say,

Botanists discovered a partially digested mouse inside the plant on Friday after several people complained of a horrible smell.
The carnivorous plant, native to the Philippines, is the first to actually prove that plants can indeed eat small mammals.Previously, insects were the only things that were known to be in a carnivorous plant’s diet
Now, you tell me. Why aren’t there more of these plants for sale. I’d buy a whole truckload of these plants if it were available downtown, right beside the shop where they sell flowers and Sampaguitas.

these carnivorous plants aren’t available in the market today because most of the Filipinos aren’t aware that those plants exist. and i guess only biologists, botanists, and environmentalists know about their existence.
most filipinos who are living near the habitat ofthese plants may have seen them but they aren’t aware of the properties of these plants… i guess that’ the main reason…:)
and if ever this word will spread out, i just hope that if we try to take advantage of this nice blessing then we must also put in mind that we also need to preserve nature. we must not exhaust it. before we take these plants out from their natural system we must also know first how they are to be reproduced so that they won’t be endangered as to what most of what we have has happened
Achanichi, excellent points! I just love our natural diversity here in The Philippines. I love all the wonders that nature has blessed us with..
hi. these plants are sold in some garden shops. but they are not easy to take care of as they require certain temperatures and growing conditions plus the special diet. i am an experienced gardener but i can’t seem to keep them alive in my open garden. i tried a lot of growing conditions yet they either live for a few years and eventually die off. i suggest people who would want to keep some would read up on them before before buying one.
