Bush’s Climate Change Plan: Do Nothing

First, it was to let us think that Global Warming did not exist, to refute it altogether. It was the policy of denial and attack. Then George Bush, backed away from Kiyoto, and told us he would find a better way. And now, his plan is to do nothing. If ever there should be an award for the best president to sabotage the progress of the world, then it is Mr. Bush and his love for the oil companies.

So, basically, earlier this week, George W. Bush unveiled his climate “plan”. He will not set any standards until 2025. But it gets better folks, not only will he not set any new standards until 2025, but for 2025 and beyond, he has no plans either. What a great policy! A policy to do nothing!

For the layman, for the uninitiated in the politics of Bush, his statements were just that, STATEMENTS. Take for example the following statement which is a snippet of his announcement he made just this Wednesday,

“I am announcing a new national goal: to stop the growth of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 2025,”

It sounds good right? If only that statement actually meant anything. If only that statement came with the promise of initiating legislation, adhering to Kiyoto and working with other developing nations to set real goals, and in writing.

No writing, no contract, no agreements, just another Bush speech, aimed to appease the American public, without really doing anything at all.

Oh the friend of the oil companies does it again.

But why make statements about this at all? To provide an avenue for many Republicans come June, when many democrats will try to rally to pass legislation on trying to install a cap and a goal on greenhouse emissions. Republicans will look bad if they try to go against such a movement, because it will have them looking like they are not serious on climate change. By providing his party with an avenue of another option, Bush is giving The Republicans a way out. Only, as I have stated above, that option is to do nothing. But they won’t tell anyone that, they just try to hide that fact by doling out statements such as, “we will reduce greenhouse emissions by 2025″ (caveat, “and do nothing”)

So, Bush’s legacy on Climate Change has finally been set in stone. He is by far the worst president that could have handled this situation. He has denied, stalled, and now totally derailed the process of implementing a true climate change policy.
