TYPHOON REMING (DURIAN) HITS THE PHILIPPINES

I was watching international news today, and in every newscast The Philippines was in the headlines. As with other cases this year, the headline was because of a Typhoon. In this case, TYPHOON “Reming”, which in the international community, the name is Durian. This was the strongest storm yet to hit the Philippines this year.

In a report I saw, it was a category 5. To even fathom that strength, if you’re in The U.S., just remember that Hurricane Katrina was of Category 4 strength.

According to inq7.net

Reming, which reached a gustiness of 265kph at its peak on November 30, brought 466 millimeters of rain in Legazpi City, the highest volume of rain recorded in Albay since 1967, PAGASA said.

“Reming is now over the South China Sea and moving away from the Philippines. It is no longer a threat to any land area but we are still affected by the tail end so we will continue to experience rains,” weather forecasting chief Robert Sawi said at a press briefing.

With the fragility of many houses in the Luzon area, a massive amount of Filipinos today are homeless and are probably without food and livelihood in the near future.

You probably already know this, since the news is all over the place. So, please, if you can, try to send donations out to our fellow Kababayans in the Luzon Area.
