THE AFTERMATH OF REMING… Death
Despite my hectic schedule as of late, yesterday we did write about our existing tragedy that is taking place due to Typhoon Reming. We would like to take this opportunity again to remind everyone that these are our brothers and sisters that have died. According to Red Cross, around 800 people have died or is still missing as of last count due to the mudslides. This is indeed a tragic event heading towards Christmas.
The President also conveyed her appreciation to the international community,
Even as the nation continues to grieve on this tragedy, the Filipino people are grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support extended to us from all around the world.
We will never forget the compassionate assistance and sympathy extended by the international community in the present and past disasters.
This must send a clear message to us all to keep our hopes high and have unity amid the challenges posed to us by this calamity.
All resources of the government will continue to be mobilized without letup as we pin hope against hope on the search for survivors.
We need to rise up from this trial and help rebuild devastated communities and lives.
We still need a whole lot of aid from the international community, and I hope that it gets here.
This is definitely a time in our nation that we can just step back from our daily lives and remember to take a look at the big picture. That the most precious of assets is that of a human life. If you are in the area of the devastated region, then you may want to volunteer your time and help with the relief efforts.
I strongly suggest that you take part in the Philippine National Red Cross, or maybe even your local church to mobilize any effort.
A lot of local authorities are also helping out. “Southern Leyte Gov. Rosette Lerias dispatched two five-man teams on Saturday to Albay to help in rescue and retrieval operations in mudslide stricken municipalities of that province hit hard by Supertyphoon Reming”, according to Cebu Daily News.
