Doctors Are Not Priests. Filipinas Beware!
Ok, so you thought you had a bad doctor? even a bad priest? But what about a bad doctor-priest?
Don’t know what that is?
Well, apparently this family planning doctor in london, Dr. Joyce Pratt, told a patient she needed an exorcism. The doctor said that there was something sinister moving inside of her. The patient is in her twenties and was clearly shaken. A medical panel was set to review the case, but the Doctor failed to go to the hearing.
From the times:
Before the panel moved into private session, Heather Norton, counsel for the GMC, said: “It was made clear to Dr Pratt by Mrs K that she had concerns about the size of her stomach and about bleeding and pain she had experienced.“Dr Pratt’s response was effectively to tell Mrs K that she had black magic powers in order to alleviate the problem. She told her that she should take holy water and that she should see some priests. She gave her crosses and stones that she said would protect her.
“She told her that her mother was a witch and that she and her husband were planning to kill her. Mrs K was left very shaken and intimidated.”
Dr Pratt was said to have then turned to a clinic nurse who was present and bragged about her special powers.
Miss Norton said: “The nurse was sufficiently alarmed that she contacted Mrs K to check she was all right and to notify her manager.”
Isn’t this the craziest thing you’ve ever heard?
I’ve actually seen an actual exorcism once near my place during college. 2 months previous to this seemingly possessed neighbor of mine, a college student hung himself 2 houses near my place as well. Coincidence? I dunno.
But it isn’t at all uncommon for exorcisms to take place. The Philippines is a deeply religious nation and even such things as aswangs and other seemingly supernatural phenomena are reported and passed around day in and day out. However, I don’t think they teach excorcism in medical school, unless I’m so totally out of the education loop and they have finally put this in as a requirement along with Physical Education.
