Filipino Blogger Receives A Death Threat
Tingog.com has received its first official death threat. I’m surprised it took this long, but one can only dream of such fame, right?
The threat was delivered via email, so naturally we tracked down the culprit’s ISP, and with help of our resident technology guru, it was determined that the threat came from outside The Philippines. It’s not an issue really, not even a concern, we can easily try to contact the ISP, ask their help and try tracking down the culprit, but in all honesty we really don’t care.
This coward of an individual thinks it may be funny, or in an unlikely scenario he may actually be trying to kill us.
First of all, our domain registration is private, I haven’t given out my full name, and this person doesn’t even know where we are or where we live.
The fact that this individual feels the need to go to the extent of trying to threaten our lives shows that he does not know what freedom of speech means, or even maybe his mother never taught him any manners.
I didn’t mind the threat that much, but I would’ve appreciated a specific reason as to why he deemed it necessary to write such a threat as well as to what his issue was.
Was it due to our criticism of the current administration, or the COMELEC, or THE GARCI BOYS, is he a part of the vote selling public that I wrote about, or is this person even a Filipino? Does he not like Filipinos in general? Is he a she?
What does, “Stop writing or I’m going to kill you”, mean?
Well, too much of this post has already been focused on this stupid individual, so we’ll end it here. We won’t show the entire email in detail because frankly, it’s probably just a prank, some stupid high school student high on marijuana or some other drug.
If anyone else gets a death threat any time soon, tell us about it, maybe we can start a club!

Wasn’t me Nick, I’m crude but not that rude. I don’t usually agree with your politics, but that person should really find something else to do. You think he’s serious?
Hi what was the issue about? why this guy trying to threatened you guys? it’s cool that you were able to find out the origin of the mail…
@Tintin, It wasn’t a problem, it was the last and final email that we received from the guy. Probably just a prank, but since the topics we cover are so politically heated, and with the recent danger that comes upon Filipino Journalists nowadays, one can never be too sure.
It was outside The Philippines, but we didn’t pursue any further.
@HindiAkoPinoy,
It wasn’t you for sure, although we did check your IP address just to make sure
hi there.. interesting one.. cant believe that the danger of Filipino journalists is coming through the blogosphere…
Filipino Blogger Receives A Death Threat…
Tingog.com has received its first official death threat. I’m surprised it took this long, but one can only dream of such fame, right?…
Nick, I assume that you tried contacting him as well? I don’t think this should be regarded as a prank until you make sure that it really is a prank. It is not unlikely that this guy is serious. Bloggers are facing threats in all corners of the globe
Jeremy.. Pare ko! Kool kalang! masyado ka nman OverActing eh. Death threat lang yan.
Although there have been some occasions of killing in The Philippines, it’s as if you make it out to be that all journalists are in danger.
Are you working for some sort of political agency trying to make a big deal out of this? Honestly, I think there is too much talk about journalists being killed, I don’t believe it is that bad.
Hindiakopinoy, obviously you must be disconnected from society to believe that the killings aren’t that bad. One can only come to this conclusion when they detach themselves from a situation such as these killings.
There have been endless reports pointing to the fact that these killings are barbaric and should not be happening in a democracy that cherishes the human life.
If one of these were members of your family, you probably would be singing a different tune.
I take these killings very seriously, and so do the millions of Filipino people.
I hope that you can at least read the Alston report for some information about this, just search it in this blog using the search function on the top right.
You cannot begin to understand the torment of the families who have lived through and are living the aftermath of a murdered loved one. Journalist are just some of the many people who have been killed. Some estimates go as high as over 800 killed during the Gloria Administration…
paraphrased from a terry pratchett book:
“The death threats are actually a positive sign. It means you’re annoying the right people.”
Keep up the good work! Don’t worry, you have millions of supporters in netland who’ll back you up in a fight.
