RP Basketball Team Falls Short Once Again
The Philippine Basketball team lost to Jordan, and the impossible dream of having a Philippines Basketball team in the Olympics, may have indeed been impossible. The final score for Team Philippines versus the Jordanians was 84-76. The San Miguel-RP team in this FIBA-Asia men’s championship may have once again proved the futility of The Philippines truly competing in Basketball.
From a 24 to 15 lead in the first half, The RP team lost the lead, fell flat, and eventually lost 84 to 76. After the China Win, a lot of Filipinos had more hope this time around, but that second half told the rest of the story. Beijing 2008? I guess the sidelines is where we will be watching the action.
It’s not a surprise that the RP Basketball team fell short. As I have always said, with regards to Philippine sports. If we can’t be number one, or at least compete to be in the top, then we should scrap it. Let’s be realistic. Let’s compete and have a fighting chance. For me, there is no shame in concentrating in soccer, badminton, boxing, table tennis, or even chess. As long as we have a chance, and we don’t become just a token country in that sport, then let’s give it all we have. This is not my principle per sé, this comes from Jack Welch himself.
There’s pride, and then there’s foolish pride. Be smart, and we will eventually dominate a few of the sports.
