I Want A Rematch!
Pacquiao-Marquez II, the second match between these two boxing superstars is again in the record books, and again, as what happened in their first encounter, it went to the scorecards. But instead of a draw, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao wins over Juan Manuel Marquez in a split decision.
I’m not satisfied. It was a thrilling match, yes. It was another classic, yes. But the first two matches between these two great fighters have not been an overwhelming victory. And as a boxing enthusiast, I clamor for more.

Are these two fighters so evenly matched, that their fights must always end up going to the scorecards?
Yes, I want a rematch. And I need a rematch. The score is not settled, although many will disagree.
The Filipino boxer won in the end, and I guess for Manny Pacquaio, the story between him and Juan Manuel Marquez is over. But not for this fan, not until I see a knockout or at least a wider margin of victory through a unanimous decision.
But, this I will admit — These two boxers have the heart of warriors. Maybe that’s why they just won’t go down.
The only reason that I am asking for a third match between these two boxers is that the decision was too close to call. Until one of them can show a unanimous decision, Pacquiao will have to look back to these two matches with Marquez and truly ask himself if indeed he is the better fighter between the two.
Duane Ford scored the bout for Pacquiao 115-112, Jerry Roth scored it it 115-112 for Marquez, while Tom Miller gave the bout to Pacquiao with a score of 114-113.
The Philippine Inquirer scored the bout 114-113 in favor of Marquez, and even The Associated Press scored the same for Marquez. I myself, thought Marquez had a very very narrow lead at most. So, where do we go from here? Pacquiao says it’s finished business now with him and Juan Manuel Marquez, but Marquez doesn’t seem to think so. The third round knockdown of Marquez was indeed critical for the Mexican fighter.
Pacquiao wants to move up to a higher weight division, in the 135 pound, but will promoters want to schedule a rematch between these two boxers? If the price is right, I wouldn’t put it past these boxing promoters. In the end, it’s all about the money, and Juan Manuel Marquez may just get his wish of a third match with Manny Pacquiao.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not rallying on Marquez’s side, I’m Filipino after all, and my heart will always be for our champion. But on a purely boxing fan point of view, this second match was not the closure I had intended, and I even thought that Pacquiao lost this most recent match with Marquez.
This could probably end up as one of the best boxing rivalries to stand the test of time if indeed there is a another rematch. Sort of like Fraser and Ali, it could be Pacquiao and Marquez immortalized in boxing lore as one of the two greatest fighters with one of the best collective bouts between each other. A rivalry to stand the test of time. Now, who wouldn’t want that as a Filipino?
For this precise argument. I WANT A REMATCH!
