The Fleeting Life, A Diffference We Can Make

I see Pedro in my dreams, and he waves in passing. I am a Filipino who cannot forget, and believes strongly that life must be about making a difference, if indeed we are to live meaningful lives. I do not dare go against the grain of my passion, to steal the life that was meant to be, to live a life of wanton and meaningless existence. It is sacrifice and love that makes me happy, and I wonder, all too often, if indeed, sometimes, I am part of a minority group.

We know that life is fleeting, and yet we live as if we have all the days in the world. We hoard, we collect, we store, and we acquire, because possession seems to be what should make us happy. To my fellow minorities, those who wish to make a difference, those who know that life is but a speck in the passage of time, let us remind everyone, that the success we have in life, is only judged by how we lived in service and how we gave of ourselves. How we lived in love, and how we lived in giving.

And at the last hour, will we be in mourning at the lost opportunities to have made this world a better place? I contemplate, and I ruminate, on a life spent thus far, and a life that is still yet to be lived. If I am to do what I expect of myself, will it be enough?

I cannot drop everything for the sake of this service, but I cannot put on hold, the service that I must render, simply because I feel that I am not ready. We make do, we sacrifice, because we truly are never ready to face the challenges that seems so insurmountable, the challenges that make our nation weak, the challenges that stagnates us, and the challenges that keep our people from living.

My dear friends, this is not a revolutionary statement, this is not a call to forgo everything that you have worked for.

My dear friends, my colleagues, my fellow bloggers, my readers, my dear fellow Filipinos, this is a plea, to realize, that whatever we do, we must find time, we must find hope, and we must find the realization in all of us, that in order to live a life that is certainly full, that we must find a way to incorporate a way in which we can contribute to the greater good.

There are ways, and many know this to be true, in which we can provide for ourselves, our family, and still find a way to provide for our nation. It is a synergy of responsibilities in each and every Filipino, that will push us towards a better nation.

If there are things that we must disagree upon, let it be on the way we will accomplish the goal of a better nation. But let us not disagree, that indeed, we must act, unless we find ourselves in the end of our days, contemplating, and asking ourselves, if indeed, we have done enough to make our children, and our children’s children proud of our actions. Inaction should not be a choice. Living a life on the sidelines are for the weak. I choose to be strong.

It is a fleeting life, as the dusk of our youth suddenly awakes to the dawn of our lives, it will be the simple things of what we did in service that will truly stand out. We live and we love, and in that love, our nation we find. And as we close our eyes, we can breathe our last breath, knowing that we did all we could, and then peace we shall find in that eternal slumber.
