The Comelec Runaround: Focus on Cheating Not Contempt

For some people, they may not realize the Public Relations that The Comelec may be trying to pursue. Trying to act tough and talk tough against Lintang Bedol, but in the end, the actions aren’t even a slap in the wrist. The charge that they are bringing on Lintang Bedol is for indirect contempt which is nonsense since the more important issue of what really happened during the elections as well as the election documents in Maguindanao have yet to be answered.

Instead of giving Bedol 10 whole days to explain why he has failed to appear, they should be focusing on why Bedol did not allow anyone to witness the provincial canvassing, and why he took it upon himself to collect all the municipal documents as well as Statement of votes, which later turned out to be lost. These are the important questions, because in all actuality, Bedol should have already been compelled to explain his disappearance when he went in front of The Comelec on Tuesday, ten days is too much, a simple explanation would be enough, and yet, the whole show on Tuesday amounted to nothing useful.

It’s just another example of the foot-dragging that this Comelec has shown. Lintang Bedol should have been jailed for contempt already, and further criminal investigations should be pursued. Everything that The Comelec has been pursuing against Bedol is nothing and shows their lack of really wanting the public to know what truly happened in Maguindanao.

  1. [...] the Nicodemo Ferrer blowup, and ask ourselves was this just a Public Relations stunt to make the COMELEC seem serious against Lintang Bedol? After all, didn’t COMELEC en banc also wanted to charge Bedol for infidelity in the custody [...]
