My Purpose As A Filipino

There was a time in my life when all I could think about was myself, when the furthest I could think about of my future was what I would eat for dinner. I changed. When I realized that the homeless man and the poor among us have lives, have stories, have families, and is a part of all of us. To those who say they love our homeland, those who love their nation, and love their people, sometimes we have to remember that these people include the least among us.

I left that life. I moved on. At some point during my college years, my life turned around, and I guess I am a better man for it. I could see my future with clarity, with a sense of purpose. I could see what my life would be for. To live for a better me, to live for a better Philippines, and to live and fight for the least among us.

I choose to write today, not because of what I gain from it, I choose to write because it is a start to future that I saw when I first saw that future. With clarity, I know that I am here for a purpose, and that is to uplift the Filipino people. As early as now, I am already setting myself up towards the mid game. And if you are a player of chess, you understand that the mid game is important for setting up the end game.

The end game is to be actively involved in the governance of our nation. A man, a Filipino, acting because it is right, to end tyranny, to help our nation. I am but one man, but let us be inspired, that there are millions out there who, like me, have seen that light, have seen their future with clarity, and know that the life we live is but one, what we make of it is our choice. The choice to do what is right is inherent in many of us, and I am hopeful, that in the years, and decades to come, we will come out of the woodwork, and fight for the nation that our past heroes and our past leaders have fought for. Indeed, there are those who are already beginning this fight, let the numbers grow.

I am Nick, I am a Filipino, and I will fight for our future.

  1. Now, you should convince other Pinoys to be like you. We need more Filipinos who care.
