I know this comment of mine is too late as I do not read Philippine Newpapers and don’t have TFC or any other Filipino channels at home as my husband don’t understand the language. I was in the Philippines last month for 3 weeks and the office manager/partner of my business in Manila told me about this ridiculous and complete bigotry statement of Malu Fernandez though I must admit I have not red her write up. But very much eager to say my comment on whatever she wrote, and these are my comments:
•	It’s because you want to be recognized as a celberity which you don’t even qualify doesn’t mean you can discriminate your compatriots abroad….. Actually I am embarrassed to call you compatriot (idiot).
•	If you think you have a job in the Philippines for the Filipinos working abroad because you think you are rich – why don’t you give them a job so they don’t have to make sacrifices and leave their families behind.
•	One thing you should remember (if you have brain) – if the government appreciate the huge contribution of overseas workers to the foreign exchange revenue, why can’t you?
•	Before you make a negative comment about others, look at yourself first if you are any better than anyone. If you think you are, then you should be in a different planet where you are well suited…. Probably planet of the APES???
•	Even if you are a celebrity – who give a damn about you. I saw and met a lot Hollywood celebrities in Dubai due to the nature of my Job. Even met the FAA Administrator from US Government and assisted a lot Government dignitaries during their visit to Dubai Airport. Not to mention a lot of high profile personnel of TV/Magazine companies like CNN, CNBC, Conde Nast, National Geographic, USA Today, etc etc. If you don’t want to believe I don’t care but I can send you some photos of those Hollywood celebrities to make you feel more insecure because your attitude is all about insecurities.
•	Those housemaids and cheap Filipino Overseas Workers you are talking about are decent and have dignity in life, the fact that they are working hard to support the family is a proof of hardwork and dedication to their family.

Shame on you and your family – is that the way you were raised by your parents?

Malu,
I am a disabled 29-yearUSAF Veteran who recently arrived from the US to live permanently in the Philippines. I am very disheartened by your People Asia Article. I traveled alone from Albuquerque, New México and met many Filipinos enroute to Manila, some of whom were OFWs. I applaud them for their kindness assisting me through my transit. Indeed, they were spirited because they were returning home to see friends and relatives.

Your article is seditious and does not delegate you to diva status; it only shows your perceived humility led you to write a scathing not acerbic attack on OFWs.

Finally, “whoever humbles himself will be exalted”. Please do not relegate OFWs

imagine yourself controlling the rates of your remittances. can we do that? i am not a good writer as malou fernandez but please bear with my writing and read it to the end. i am an ofw working in japan, it's quite annoying listening from the news, bragging the high peso value. as a filipino, of course i should be proud, BUT, have you heard any news that benefit filipino people including our family in the philippines? NO! in fact, their is a pending proposal of a fare hike! 2nd, price increase of sugar, 3rd, neverending price increase of gasoline which follows all other consumer products. i thought mrs gloria arroyo is an economist? high peso value, expensive consumer products...is this what economy thought by the school she studied abroad? or she just misundertood the meaning, "english kasi".
Now, here's my plan, which will raise remittances' market value. don't you want that? NO! it is what we NEED! the peso value mainly depends on our remittances, of course their are other sources but we contribute the biggest percentage. they said that makati business men control the rates, but we say, from now on, WE DECIDE!
i propose, november 26 - december 3 2007, STRICTLY NO REMITTANCE WEEK, we'll call this the NEW HERO'S WEEK!within 1 week without our remittance, the peso value will drop, which will create higher market value of our remittances, dollar or yen, don't get excited by remitting it when you have seen the rates gradually increase, we will remit it on december 4, by bulk! yeah! hey what's the difference? either the peso value increase or decrease, nothing happens in our country, only those who seated in malacanang can eat fried chicken without worrying what will they eat the next day. if only few of us will cooperate, nothin happens. i urge those doctors, nurses who were insulted by teri hatcher to join, i know you won't let those insults starve you're family in the philippines. i know how we OFWs made Malou Fernadez fired! i know. deep inside, a warrior within ourselves is just waiting to be pushed, but you might ask, WHAT CAN I DO? join this movement, convey this message to every OFW you know all over the WORLD! Do what is agreed!
Hey guys! Join the group which I created in the net, filipino_ofw_warrior_within@yahoogroups.com. we will post any suggestions you think, and vote, and whichever is agreed, we must do, we must be united to be strong, strong enough to control our rates. we will know each member by codenames not by true names. these names will move the seats of those who seated, blinding themselves with money which they got from us. IT IS TIME!Doctors, Nurses, Engineers, CareGivers, DH, etc from US, Dubai, Canada, Australia , New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, China, Germany, Saudi Arabia and all other countries where our brother OFW is working very hard, UNITE! Don't ever think that our government are true to the concern they are giving us, they are just concerned with their names to be broadcast in preparation for the coming election this coming year 2010! and are concerned wih their pockets funded by our own money which we worked hardly for our family we long everyday, to be with us someday. It is our call Filipino OFWs, let us proudly say, THIS IS OUR MONEY, WE WILL DECIDE!

To: Josellene, Just for your info.,there are quite a lot of OFW's earning way better than Malu Fernadez, who can well afford expensive perfumes and can fly on business class or even first class of Emirates or any other Airlines.
However, I agree with your appeal to stop cursing and calling her names the fact that it's not helping to solve the issue. It's merely our way of expressing anger and dissapointment against her discriminatory comments.

MS. JOZELLENE YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT, WE SHOULD RESPECT HER, WE SHOULD GIVE RESPECT TO THE ANIMALS! WE CANNOT EXPECT ANYTHING FROM A DOG OTHER THAN TO BARK! BUT DOGS ARE MAN'S BEST FRIEND! BUT SHE IS LIKE A PIG WHERE ALL THE EVIL SPIRITS RESIDES! I DO NOT JUDGE HER, BUT THE WAY SHE TALKS YOU CAN SEE HOW EVIL HER HEART IS! BECAUSE WHATEVER WORDS COMING OUT FROM OUR MOUTH, IT IS COMING FROM OUR INNER BEING, FROM OUR HEART... SO IF THE WORDS ARE EVIL THE HEART IS EVIL AS WELL!

with regards to this article, though OFWs act the way they did inside the plane Ms.Fernandez still doesn't have the right to discriminate them. saying that she would rather slash her wrist rather than be stuck in a plane full of OFWs is down right discriminatory. When i was asked to read this article in class i thought that Ms.Fernandez had wrotesoemthing about the Philippines particularyly Boracay to promote our countries tourism, but after reading it i was shocked to find out that a Filipino wouldwrite something like this to insult her fellow Filipinos whosejob is not ashigh paying as hers. Also saying that she would keep her head up tonot ruin her make up and hold her accessory bag up high so that itwon'tget wet in case the plane crashes on the sea makes her a materialistic premadonna whose only concernis looking beautiful. For me i think Ms.Fernandezmadethe right decision to resign in Manila Standards and People Asia because if your onlypurpose of writing about Filipinos is totrash talk themthenmight as well stab them at the back ifthey are not uptoyour standards. I feel sorry forthe OFWs especially the ones in Dubia because they werethe oneswhowerehardly hit by this article written by a person who doesn't think before she acts. On her part i'am the one who wants to say sorry though i had nothing to do with this article. This comment is from a student who wants to reach out and say that wherever a Filipino may be whatever profession he has he still has the right to be respected by anyone s/he encounters despite his/her status in life..@};--

but there's one thing i really want to know where did Ms.Malu Fernandez study to become this type of columnist.

[and forthose who are commenting aboutthis article though we or i want to say curses to her and call her names we should still give respect to her because she is still human and that no one isperfect here on earth. So please if you guys don't mind stop the name callings like misspiggy or balyena.Give respect.]
