Disaster Relief Efforts
There’s too much on my plate as of the moment to write even a semi-coherent analysis on politics and/or news, so I won’t even attempt it today. But on another note, I’d like to get some help to a recent proposal, that I really thought would be of great public service to our kababayans. Thank you to a noted blogger for bringing this up by the way.
It’s about FilipinoVoices.com possibly taking a lead, spearheading, or heading blogger-driven disaster relief efforts. Which got me to asking — HOW?
I asked the rest of the team, and there have been quite a few suggestions that I think are feasible. But I’d like to get feedback on this as soon as possible, before even attempting to make this a reality. And believe me, if it will be of any help, I think it’s something worthy of our collective effort.
Now, here’s some interesting stuff that I happened upon.
Inquirer.net had an interesting bit of info regarding the move of Congress to finally make their PORK PROJECTS transparent to the public, in the form of putting all the projects online. This is great news, but still, I think these pork projects should be phased out for a better utilization of our money. Believe me, once these pork projects are up online, I’ll be the first scrutinizing them one by one.
Marck has an interesting post over at FilipinoVoices.com which I thought was very relevant since I think what he feels, which is an “awful feeling”, is something that many of us feel during such disasters as this recent one of The MV Princess of The Stars. Typhoon Frank is yet another typhoon that we won’t soon forget, but Marck puts it in perspective, and reminds us, that maybe we should all be concentrating on relief efforts, and put the castigation and the blame game on to the back burner. I’m with him up to an extent, I think we can still do both. But, trust me, I’m really really pissed, and filled with a sense of anguish.
Here in The United States, the news is not about that stupid Arroyo trip, but on the capsizing of the Sulpicio ship, and the the hundreds that could be dead. Again, I’m always keen when it comes to Philippine News, but honestly, international media only covers The Philippines in cases of Bank Robberies, Kidnappings, and natural disasters. Any good news, well, I guess we’re going to have to peddle that ourselves. Yet another reason, why I hate mainstream media sometimes, especially in The United States.
Lastly, The Philippine Issues Writing Project is still ongoing until June 27, so join today, receive a FREE STICKER, and possibly be the winner of more prizes too!
