Preparing For Holy Week 2008
Holy week 2008 is upon us. Next week will be the second most awaited week for me personally. Other than the week of Christmas, this week is always celebratory and consists of many days of reflection on the gifts bestowed upon me. In the Philippines, Holy Week is like no other. At the present, I will be spending Holy Week in The United States, but believe me, I would rather be in Cebu where a plethora of events are already taking place.

I’ve always relished Holy Week for the events and the spectacular wonderment that many will see during this solemn yet festive week. If ever you find yourself in Cebu, I suggest a church-hopping and eventful week. Cardinal Bidal is always a treat to watch at The Cebu Cathedral. The blessing of fire and water is one of their best ceremonies they do during the whole year.
And of course, please drop by Basilica de Santo Niño, or just Santo Niño for the locals. If approached by a lady selling candles, I suggest you buy at least one, and see the dance they do while doing the prayer for you. They light them up after their neat little dance.
Let’s not forget, Celestial Gardens, Banawa Hills where hundreds, if not thousands, go during the Holy Week and observe a tradition of walking through the Stations of The Cross. The statues are about 10 to 15 feet tall. (pictured above)
Well, anyway, this was just a brief personal note and maybe a publicity blog post for my beloved Cebu.
What are you doing for Holy Week?
