Cardinal Ricardo Vidal, I Am Disappointed!

I am disappointed by Cardinal Ricardo Vidal. When he makes statements against Jun Lozada. That Lozada should not be called a hero, that is the cardinal’s right to say. I myself agree that Jun Lozada is not a hero. But there is a statement that I would rather liked to have come from Cardinal Vidal and it has to do with President Gloria Arroyo herself. When Cardinal Vidal takes his time to make a statement against Jun Lozada, but does not even mention the corruptive practices of this Arroyo Administration, I AM DISMAYED.

I’ve been in masses which have been headed by Cardinal Vidal, and I always enjoy his sermons, but it is the sermon regarding President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and the corruption that pervades her administration that I am still waiting to hear. For all the power that this Cardinal possesses, in this issue, he has taken the wrong stand and has not focused on the main individual — Gloria Arroyo.

I have enjoyed Cardinal Vidal’s masses, even on mornings where the attendants numbered less than 20. If ever there was a fan club for Cardinals, then I would surely be in that fan club for Vidal. And yet, fan or not, his recent attempts to dismiss Lozada and his campus tours is very disappointing to me.

Also, as a former University of San Carlos college student, I am proud that Jun Lozada visited the University. It’s the top University in the region, and the students are some of the most educated and smart individuals in The Philippines. They can discern for themselves the truth and the illegalities in the NBN deal, the illegalities regarding the many loans from China, and the sincerity of Jun Lozada.

Oh yes, Jun Lozada is no hero, but he has a right to be hailed a hero by many people. I don’t agree that he is a hero, but it is the right of Filipinos and Cebuanos to support him. And the church for all the good they do, has no right to impede the will of the people, when they wish to see the man who is fighting The Arroyo Machine. And when there is a refusal for a mass, that is something else that is also infuriating. It is a mass for truth, surely the church still supports truth?

Furthermore, if mass is now only offered to a select group, and is denied to those who The Cardinal is in disagreement with, then the he is treading on dangerous waters.

If The Cardinal wishes to attack political dissidents such as Jun Lozada, then he should also be made aware that taking such a stand only strengthens the argument that he is closing his eyes to the anomalies surrounding The Arroyo Administration because of his ties to The President.

I AM DISMAYED Cardinal. I am disappointed.

  1. Rosales and Vidal could learn a thing or two from the monks of Burma and Tibet.

  3. dude, get your facts straight before you speak :) Cardinal Vidal did not give out the directive and the priest are welcome to decide on their own if they will be able to do the mass.

Lozada has a right to his ego and I have the right to ignore him.

yeah whatever! the will of the poeple? or the will of the of Manila?
all the hype about the self proclaimed crusader of truth is overrated.
he is no hero, i would sooner proclaim Paquiao a hero and i’m not even fond of the cocky boxer. unlike the narrow minded people up north cebuanos wants facts not just accusations, and just because we are not jumping into the Lozada bandwagon with both feet, doesn’t mean we are Arroyo’s fan, just because we don’t think like those of the north doesn’t mean it doesn’t mean we do not care. and the tactless comment he made did not help his cause in cebu.

If Jun Lozada is really for the truth- that is his crusade, right?, then why check first if there is really truth on the ban on masses for him instead of his rude comments. That only shows that his crusade is not for real. It is not for the Filipino people but for him and the movement.I should have been his avid fan but not anymore.

Then how about the ban on masses for him by the Archdiocese of Nueva Caceres in Bicol. The priests there don’t want to be used for Jun’s and B&W movement political issues.

All Filipinos know the real situation in the Philippines. No need for campus tours and masses for him. What for?

  6. i am appalled by your sweeping conclusion that it is Cardinal Vidal who lied rather than Lozada. i hope you did some reflections over the holy week.

  7. Look, everyone. It’s plain and simple. Masses are not hard to come by. The fact that statements from the cardinal came as they did, that is enough to deter even a barangay priest. That is the point everyone is missing here. Whether Lozada or Vidal is lying, that is for them to know. The statement of Vidal is enough of a statement to make it an order nonetheless, so that priests, even those in San Carlos will have to abide by the opinion of the cardinal himself. Often times, the opinion of the Cardinal can be law when it comes to Cebu and The CAtholic church. It’s influence, that’s the key. I care not much for Lozada, but his right to be invited to such schools, and hold a mass if he wishes. The Catholic church should act like a shepherd of men, not the judge of all.

  8. […] I have said in my comments from my previous article, there need not be a written order from The Cardinal, his actions are orders enough. I’m glad […]

  9. The second sentence (of the first paragraph) of your article is not a sentence (actually).peace.
