Butiki: Ode to The Philippine Gecko

Butiki Philippine Gecko

Love it or not, the butiki is as filipino as… (thinking)…. (thinking)… pan-de-sal…

Here’s a poem that just came to me while looking up at the ceiling one day.

Dear friend… I have known you all of my life
You and your family have been with me
Even longer than any of my girlfriends..

You are free.. free to roam any house of your choice
You defy the laws of physics..
And the sound of your tail sends quivers through
The spines of women and children…

I think your kind likes me.. for too often you have come
flying towards me, for no apparent reason…
I scream and run around… but you keep on doing
what you do best… crawl.. and crawl some more..

Oh my dear gecko.. you are as Filipino as the coconut
or even the pan-de-sal…

Yet, you are overshadowed
But to me… when I think of The Philippines
You are above most…
Because you are usually on the ceiling…

Bow..

Gecko is it? I had thought the geckos were the bigger ones, the “TUKO”.

  2. I read your post Gerry… That is so funny!

Yeah, geckos are the smaller ones. The house gecko is the ones we have in the Philippines..

you can refer to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_Gecko
