A Streetchild Named JunJun

This is a picture by an excellent photographer Parc Cruz. It is a Brazilian child. It reminded me of this street child that I saw in Cebu. I can’t help but wonder what has happened to him. I gave him a few pesos, knowing and hoping he would buy some bread. Walking away, I asked his name. “JunJun”, he replied as he clutched the coins with dear life.

Here’s some words that was inspired from the picture below.

I do not know what is more important in our lives than our children. It is an old cliche that our children are our future. But in our actions our memory fades.

When we promise our filipino children the moon and stars, and they finally look down to see the scars of a torn country. Ravaged by poverty and abuse, by drugs and alcohol, by corruption and bitterness. We live here, not in the sky. Our grasp does not reach the stars, but is far enough to reach our children.

Our future, is that child. In front of you. Limitless possibilities.

One Response to “A Streetchild Named JunJun”

  1. It is so true that children in the streets are such a heart-braking sight. There are some that, you just know, are on low cost items that they use as drugs such as inhalants found in hardwares. I often think to myself if only some there were social workers that could roam the streets, then maybe the situation will improve.

True, some of these children are basically con artists. But, you can’t punish those innocent ones just because of a few bad apples.
