A Poem For EDSA

Epifanio de los Santos Avenue or EDSA, there is only one image that comes to mind, when that word is brought up. An image of revolution, of People Power. Lately, I’m in the digging mode, looking for the material of the past, mostly written. And on this search, I found “A Poem For EDSA” in one of my notebooks, but cannot remember when exactly did this poem materialize. When inspiration hits, I have this annoying habit of scribbling my thoughts, and this must have been one of those scribbles. I hope you like the poem, as I read it once again, I think it’s a nice reflection of what gift EDSA gave to us, and what responsibilities we still hold with that gift in our possession.

A Poem For EDSA

You are a location, a sight to see, but your meaning is so much more to me.

For men have stood strong in your presence,

the courage you must have seen, and felt.

It was a revolution, a people power, the only thing right for that hour

21 years have passed, and we again do battle

because life in this nation is anything but simple

And yet, we follow, the people of the past,

because they have shown that tyranny must never live

Only the just and the moral, they shall prevail

Time is not important, only the now is what we have

And in EDSA time is immemorial, because it lives in all of us

not knowing when it will be needed,

but in hibernation its strength is undiminished

A literary masterpiece it may not be, but I hope we still feel that connection with EDSA, the place where we brought an end to tyranny, only to realize, that we must always be fighting against it, lest we become complacent, and it rears its ugly head again…

    EDSA.

Talking about EDSA, it is just a shadow of the past. because of EDSA the good President Marcos lost his throne, because of EDSA ERAP lost the same but because of EDSA is closed for the mass the Lies and corruption of leaders keep going on.

Lets not dream of EDSA anymore. it is just a part of our past. Lets think and act how to make the Philippines Great, Rich, and productive so evrybody will live as Royal and every Filipino will not suffer anymore.
