Vote Or Die

Vote or DieI wanted to write this little piece in order to cease the weak movement of boycotting the upcoming elections. There are repercussions to this plan, one of which I feel, is that the resulting would be the loss of votes for the opposition. There is a realization that is lost to some, and this is the fact that the vote is the one and true power that citizens have in the workings of its own government. We create the government by exacting our votes as we go to the polls.

The upcoming May elections should be a combination of local and national politics. Despite what the Administration spin masters will say, you are allowed to think for yourself. You are allowed to make the issue a referendum on the current administration and you are equally allowed to make the issue about economics, local issues, all of the above, or any of the above. It’s your choice.

Just because the political spin is enough to make you dizzy does not mean you have to succumb to the reasons they give you on how you should vote.

Nevertheless, after all is said and done, you should still vote. It is your right as a Filipino, and it is your duty as a Filipino. You cannot complain if you choose not to vote.

Voting will not be an exercise in futility, but will be an exercise in democracy. If you realize the sheer numbers of individuals who have died in the past just to give you this right to vote, you would probably think twice about squandering this vote. There are vast majorities of individuals in the world who would like to be in your situation. The fact that Iraqis were willing to die last year in order just to vote, should also make you think twice about not voting.

Whether you are for this Administration or against it, you will have given up your right to voice your opinion on government matters, if you choose not to vote.

Looking at our current state, I am not at all worried of people running to the streets in order to reek havoc upon our country, what has me even more worried is that our fellow Filipinos will be so indifferent as to not even care to get out of their own houses.

Very bloody well-said! But the praise is coming from someone who has failed to register to vote for the upcoming elections. *hangs head in shame*

Apathy. Ahh, apathy. It’s the saddest thing anyone can feel. At least both the pros and antis have stand. The apathetic and apolitical ones float; thus, they’re the ones who suffer most.

  2. @Shari, thanks for coming by… That’s alright, as long as you are involved in some way or form of expressing your opinion and being involved in the government in any capacity, I think Democracy will have favor with you…

You are so right with regards to Apathy. It’s one of the true enemies of democracy itself..
