Trillanes: The Detainee Who Would Become Senator

Arroyo: The Lieutenant who became a detainee. The detainee who became a candidate. The candidate who defied an Administration. Striking story! But now, the people want to know how the story ends. Only a famous downfall will do. And what could be more glorious than to challenge the President herself in the great political arena?
Trillanes: You would fight me?
Arroyo: Why not? Do you think I am afraid?
Trillanes: I think you’ve been afraid all your life.
(Adapted from The Gladiator, one of my favorite movies of all time, I thought this would be fitting of the occasion)
Commodus: The general who became a slave. The slave who became a gladiator. The gladiator who defied an emperor. Striking story! But now, the people want to know how the story ends. Only a famous death will do. And what could be more glorious than to challenge the Emperor himself in the great arena?
Maximus Decimus Meridius: You would fight me?
Commodus: Why not? Do you think I am afraid?
Maximus Decimus Meridius: I think you’ve been afraid all your life.

Nick,
I read ur invitation at Ellen’s blog. Grabe ‘pre! Siguro naman alam nila ang kwento ng Gladiator where Russell Crowe garnered an Oscar. Lalong matatakot nya si Mrs. Arroyo and her cohorts the Senator, I mean Gladiator killed his nemesis and reigned supreme afterwards.
@Joeseg,
Oo nga, I’ve been thinking about this parallel scenario for quite sometime. I didn’t want to preempt it, but it seems quite fitting.. Now, I don’t want any killing, let’s get this straight..
but I think a some investigations and finally some checks and balance are in order…
Hahahah! Love it, love it, Nick.
It’s futile for the pint-sized Pidal woman to resist the Trillanes phenomenon, she’ll be buried with her own fear and anger in no time.
And yes, I totally agree with you and Maximus that the bogus president Gloria has been afraid all her life!
Ang galing-galing ng ginawa mo.
HI Chi! thanks, I knew you would like it… I’ve been saving this post for a while now, specifically for this particular day..
Great post Nick. It’s this morning diba? around 9-10 am
Boy is this history in the making. Senator Trillanes sounds so good
Senator Trillanes!!!! Woooohoooo!!! Parang Gladiator talaga si Trillanes, sino kaya ang uunahan niya? Matatakot dapat ang mga taga administrasyon. Time to pay for all the corruption!!!!!!!
@Joey365,
I believe the proclamation should be starting or about to start within a few minutes.. let’s hope he lives up to the expectations of 11 million Filipinos who voted for him…
First thing’s first, investigations with regards to the AFP…
with the Cavalier Group of Lacson and Biazon (nevermind Honasan), this should help with the speed with which these investigations will occur..
Sir,
May I post your Gladiator-inspired Trillanes picture. My friend would be very happy to see it our forum.
I’ll acknowledge and link your blog.
Thanks.
@Jowana, of course, ikaw pa, kahit ano…

That goes for everyone else too.. For the enjoyment of all Trillanes fans
don’t want to spoil the fun but don’t you see the senate inquiry when then sen. de castro was asking trillanes about the ‘vans’?
nick, can you dig some lines about that senate thing? just for clarity.
again, so sorry for spoiling the fun!
Mark, I saw that inquiry. The inquiry didn’t prove or disprove anything. I never wrote anything about that, since I wasn’t blogging back then. Maybe I’ll revisit the issue soon, maybe Trillanes will shed some light on that including the Oakwood Mutiny.
He’s now a Senator, so he has more leeway, than when he was detained.
nick,
how i hope i am wrong. but when trillanes registered the vans under his name (instead of his mother who he claims the real owner) so that the financing company will have a hard time to recall the vehicles if in case he defaulted in paying the monthly dues, i can’t accept the fact that he will be the ‘messiah’ of the our nation.
He was a LtSg in the navy that time. an equivalent of a captain in the army. and he can boast of that thing (which for me is unethical acts of using his ‘little’ authority as a military personnel to threaten a private financing company, if in case he defaulted from paying the dues)during the senate inquiry.
He’s now a senator, he will have more leeway, that’s what im afraid of!
im an army captain assigned in the field junior to the likes of Cpts Gambala, Maestrecampo. hope you get my point if i don’t believe the guy. for me he’s just the same with those corrupt senior military officers only of little scale at those times prior to oakwood.
just expressing my own idea.
by the way nick, do you know who among the magdalo leaders received the ‘fund’ from their politician patrons who funded their adventure trip to oakwood?
thanks for entertaining and more power.
@Mark,
You can always express your views. I’ve never censored any comments, and I don’t plan to. This is the voice of The Filipino, not the voice of Trillanes or the opposition.
Although my views lean towards the views held by the opposition. I go on a case by case basis, and it always depends on the issue.
With regards to Trillanes, the vans didn’t prove that much to me.. But the more important issue of Oakwood is still an open book. I would hope that the incident will again be brought up for the proper closure that we need.
Regarding to the “fund” and who received it. I have a few ideas, with regards to that, but no specifics. Again, anything I would say would be hearsay at the moment.
Let’s wait as to what will transpire from Trillanes’ Senatorship, and maybe we can get all the answers we need.
Mark, I don’t doubt your patriotism one bit. Just because we disagree on some issues, I have much respect and love for the military. I have family members in both the military and police force, and I know the hard job you endure…
Let’s keep an open mind on Trillanes, but like Gloria, we can’t ever know for sure, it is only by the actions that we can judge the person.. Hopefully his actions will be congruent with his campaign platform as well as his previous interviews..
