Super Tuesday: The 11th Hour

It’s a mad dash for the top four contenders in the United States 2008 Elections. It’s Super Tuesday, the biggest one day event in United States Primary Elections history. It is today where voters from 24 States will have made a choice for their Republican or Democratic party nominee.

As of last poll numbers, Senator McCain seems to be far ahead of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. But this can change if Southern voters forget Huckabee and move towards Romney who is certainly the more viable candidate of the two. Huckabee the more conservative of the three is seen as a spoiler for Romney since both are trying to woo the same conservative crowd.

Another Factor that will be big is whether or not Romney can retain Massachusetts. Also if recent poll numbers are correct, if Romney can steal California from McCain then this could mean a new life for Romney.

On the Democratic side, the two front runners Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has been polled to be in a dead heat in national polls. But in the Super Tuesday States, Hillary Clinton seems to have a substantial lead. This could mean that Hillary will come out of Super Tuesday with the momentum that is currently with the junior Senator from Illinois Barack Obama.

Super Tuesday Front-runners

Frankly, I’m excited. This seems to be a much more exciting and hopeful process than the one that we the Filipino people have been subjected to for some time now.

After all, this could be history in the making. The first woman President of The United States (The Philippines has had two so far). Or it could mean the first Black President of The United States.

Personally, I had hoped for John Edwards, but either way with Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, it will be a far cry from the current Bush Administration. It could finally mean a cut from the Imperialistic International Policies that the Bush Administration has been engaging in.

I do not wish for a Republican candidate to win the White House because it will surely mean another term of Imperialistic maneuvers around the world, especially in The Middle East.

Hillary has slowly lost the black vote ever since the spectacle that former President Bill Clinton made in South Carolina. With the heavy and hard race politics that Bill Clinton engaged in, it may have cost Hillary the black vote. But we can’t know this for sure until Super Tuesday is all but over.

We will have a clearer picture after Super Tuesday, only because New York is still in play for the Democrats, and that will give us a sign on whether or not Bill Clinton can still reclaim the title of being the “First Black President” because of the great support he has with the black community. California will also be important as well as Massachusetts.

It seems that California, New York, and Massachusetts will be the big states be looking closely at.

In the end, it is indeed the 11th hour, and the candidates will once again forgo sleep and make a mad dash for that last minute campaign stop in order for them to get out of Super Tuesday with their Presidential Aspiration still alive.

  1. All the candidates have one word to say, change. I suppose our congressmen “borrowed” the word from them. Please send me your email again so I can give you my cel no.

  2. Ahh yes, the catch phrase of the entire election, “change”. Politicians just love the vagueness of the term. Filipino politicians are no different, except change is code for, “me, me, me, me!”..
