Senator Ted Kennedy A Speech Worthy of A Great Senator

Senator Ted Kennedy, battling brain cancer, gave an emotional speech at The 2008 Democratic National Convention last night. It was a surprise speech, I did not know he was making an appearance, but to me, despite his colorful past, he will be remembered as one of the greatest U.S senators in history. In fact, it will be argued that his loss for the Democratic Nomination for President almost three decades back was a blessing in disguise.

He has touched most every important bill that passed through the senate, he is respected by all of his colleagues, he is friends with most of his colleagues, and this is why, the news just a few weeks ago that he had brain cancer sent such a shock throughout the political world. He is an important man, not because of his name, but what he has done throughout the years.

The following is the full text of his speech at The Democratic National Convention, and video as well. I believe, that whatever party that you belong to, such admiration is always reserved for acts like these. Ted Kennedy was not supposed to be there, but he did so because he believes so much in the man that may be elected president come November. The speech was supposed to be taped and aired during the convention. The speech was only about seven minutes. But on the first day of the convention, it was definitely the moment that stood out to me the most.

And the line, the closing line, we’ve heard this before, but last night, it rang clear, it rang loud, and it inspired.

“The work begins anew. The hope rises again. And the dream lives on”

  1. Clearly, he’s every politician’s dream politician.

  2. @AdB, so true.. despite his colorful personal life, many already agree that he has done more for The United States, than many presidents past.. Now, that’s a statement not to be taken too lightly.
