Senate President To Be Elected By Secret Balloting
The jockeying for chairmanship positions as well as the Senate Presidency as started even before the winners were declared. But it looks like the Senate Presidency will come down to two opposition Senators, Aquilino Pimentel Jr. or Manny Villar. There may be a rift that could form because of this, and as early as now, there are some who think, MalacaƱang is looking to exploit this possible clashing of Senators. It seems that Secret Balloting will be the method used for choosing the next Senate President. At least 13 Senators who make up the majority will take up the secret balloting next week.
Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail. And those in contention and those who vote, will realize that the 2010 Presidential Election is too far to be decided by this. Yes, it’s important, but a rift in the opposition is even worse.
With the new incoming 8 opposition senators coming in, the opposition bloc is indeed growing. The secret balloting may include independents, Kiko Pangalinan and Gringo Honasan. But, I’m not so sure Gringo has shown that he can be counted on.
Considering that Gringo’s case has not been junked, he has a lot to bargain for, and may need the leniency of MalacaƱang and the DOJ.
Kiko seems in the middle to me. And don’t even think about Joker Arroyo to suddenly join the opposition. The latest on him is that he is being considered to head KAMPI itself.
