Philippine Election 2007 Update: Cayetano, OAV, and Counting

The big news of the day have been the counting that is being done by the media stations as well as NAMFREL. Despite the offensive that is being mounted by the collective forces of the Administration, TEAM Unity, and COMELEC, the unofficial counts move forward.

COMELEC has been threatening the television stations stating that they are not authorized to do the quick counts and that they are showing trending of the results, thus it might confuse the people. I say, Abalos is confused, and is trying to confuse the voters in the process.

You can also keep up with our snapshots of the counting of votes by looking at the comment section of our previous post, “Morning After The Philippine Elections“.

The Cayetano Saga

The saga of Alan Peter Cayetano seems to have no end. Cayetano, along with his lawyer, went to The Supreme Court yesterday to ask for a final ruling on the disqualification of the nuisance candidate Joselito Cayetano. And earlier today, The Supreme Court deferred their ruling on the Cayetano poll dispute until 10 days, to give the COMELEC and Joselito Cayetano to respond to the petition filed by Alan Cayetano.

To intensify the drama of the whole case, Alan Cayetano is thinking about impeachment if stray votes cost him the election. The impeachment threat is directed to the COMELEC. They will wait out the results in the meantime. You can read more about this impeachment issue here.

Some Good News

To balance out this day (a little), we have some great news about three Pinays that have reached the summit of Mount Everest.

MANILA, Philippines — A small window of good weather, a little good luck and a lot of determination gifted three Filipino women who belonged to a Philippine expedition the ultimate triumph of a mountaineer: the summit of Mt. Everest, the world’s highest mountain.

In a satellite phone call to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, expedition leader Art Valdez confirmed that Noelle Wenceslao, Karina Dayondon and Janet Belarmino all reached the summit from the North Side Wednesday morning.(via Inquirer.net)

Viva la Slovenia!

In a show of voter strength (sarcasm), 1 Filipino voter managed to vote in Slovenia. I would like to know who this person was, and give this person a medal. This is what I call a dedicated and passionate Filipino. I’m still trying to figure out, just how many Filipinos are actually living in Slovenia at the moment. If someone has any idea, I’d really and honestly would like to know.
