No Backing Down on Charter Change

Gloria Macapagal ArroyoThere’ll be no backing down for Charter Change

In Bunye’s new column which comes out today, he states that President Arroyo will continue her push for Charter Change.

They keep on insisting that The “6 million signatures” constituted a mandate for change.

“The desire of the people to change the degenerated system is evidently there. It is important to keep this fire burning,” he said. Is it truly the whole system? Or could it be the individuals running the system? nowhere in his statements does Bunye, or the Administration ever seem to think that it may be the politicians and officials at fault.

There is total passing of the buck (or peso) in all statements of this Administration.

I think if the people really want change, then fine. Let us change. But, hopefully the administration will approach Changing the Charter in a fully legal way.

Hopefully we don’t hear another “hello Garci” tape. Only this time maybe we will hear “Hello Romeo” (Justice Callejo) or “Hello Adolfo” (Justice Azcuna). I’m not saying that these justices will turn against their decisions, but who really knows what this Administration has under its sleeves.

And then again, I still have to assert my opinion that The Administration no longer has the ball on this issue. There are just too many oppositions to go through. Apparently, even the defense secretary has lost hope in this administration. (Later yesterday, Defense Secretary Cruz submitted his resignation)

But then again, playing devils advocate, who knows what the allies of the administration are thinking as well. Can we rule out that even if President Arroyo conceded or were to concede her efforts for Charter Change, are we to think that the numerous power hungry individuals in her party will concede? History will tell us that the answer to that question is plain and simple — NO.

Stop passing on the blame. The buck must stop somewhere, and so must the peso.
