Manuel, I Strongly Disagree, Zubiri Must Go

It’s rare for me to disagree with Manuel Quezon III two times in a row, but recently, his writing has fueled a little annoyance in me, which I must admit is partly due to my frustrations to the recently concluded midterm elections. So, what are these disagreements all about? The first was his post regarding his hunch as to why there was a lack of blogger reaction to the 14 marines who were killed in Basilan. I didn’t disagree to his whole point, and in fact I submitted that it may be the apathy of Filipinos that contribute to the lack of response to such issues. I was just annoyed that he made it look like that almost no Filipino blogger wrote about the incident.

And the second is his recent column and blog post regarding Migz Zubiri. Everyone probably already knows the extent of my contempt of Daya Na Zubiri, but Manuel wants all of us to wish him well.

I believe that those of us who have been his critics, or, to be precise, we who have been highly critical of the circumstances surrounding his election, should take the lead in wishing him well. Regardless of the circumstances under which he has finally come to assume a seat in the Senate, one can only hope he will aspire to statesmanship in the performance of his duties

Thanks for the advice Manuel, but no thanks.

Migz Zubiri may be a capable and dynamic leader or he may even become an outstanding leader, as Manuel explains, but as I have said, those who start out bad have a problem of integrity not performance. Migz Zubiri will never be redeemed.

Integrity is the key point here. This is something that all public officials must possess in order to serve with the true intent of helping the citizenry and not just themselves. If he can’t even have the decency to concede defeat and thus end the machinations that we saw in Maguindanao, then what guarantee will we have when he has to again choose between sacrificing his political career against that of the well being of The Filipino people?

Manuel seems to be putting more emphasis on the words that come out of our Fake Senator Zubiri rather than the actions that he makes. Talk is good, but a man’s actions is truly the only way we can judge him. And if his actions are for closing his eyes to the obvious cheating in Maguindanao, then how can we even start to trust him in helping lead our country.

The only solution that I can accept is for Migz Zubiri to step down as Senator, and we all know that he won’t do this. Thus, he will always be known as Daya Na Zubiri, or Fake Senator Zubiri (my own invention)…

Manuel, please remember that performance is different from integrity, and in a Senator, we must have both.

  1. if defensor or recto did not concede, we’d be looking at one or two more TU senators, thanks to Maguindanao’s “votes”.

kasi nandoon na ang “boto” eh. All defensor and recto had to do was to hang on and be patient, and the dagdag bawas operators will do the rest.

  2. indeed, what always gets me is that Fake Senator Zubiri had to sacrifice the will of the people for his own political survival. That’s an offense unbecoming of a statesman or even a public servant for that matter.
