Gearing Up For The General Election
Get ready for a real battle once Barack Obama officially becomes the party nominee for The Presidency. Make no mistake, this is going to be John McCain’s last chance at the presidency. He’s old, that’s no secret, and with age comes the dwindling prospect of mounting a third go at the presidency.
If Barack Obama has had enough of the smear tactics of Hillary Clinton’s politics, wait until the full force of The Republican party gets at him. The Obama camp has withstood the primaries, but make no mistake the general elections is something that many outstanding politicians have faced, then died a political death.
If the base of the republican party, starts to really rally behind John McCain, then Obama has a battle ten times tougher than Hillary Clinton’s camp. But the key word here is if. Many republicans have yet to fully support John McCain, this is why, whether the opponent is Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, John McCain will most probably be outspent in the general elections. This is especially true if Barack Obama is the candidate.
We have seen Barack Obama shatter fundraising records, and the most astonishing aspect of all of this fundraising is that it is coming from every day people, and not the lobbyists and millionaires that normally fund an election. This is why, John McCain is in desperate need of The Republican party to monetarily support his campaign that is doing well, but not so when it comes to money.
While McCain’s fortunes are trickling in, Obama’s fundraising is still seeing an increasing amount of money pouring in from all sectors.
Also, in the general elections, the main battle is that of winning the moderates and those who are not affiliated with any party. These individuals will be fought for by both The Obama camp and the McCain camp. Both candidates are strong when it comes to the support of moderates, and in a few months, we’ll see which camp these moderates will break for.
The General Election will be here in no time. The respective conventions will have produced their nominees, and then it will be gloves off, no holds barred, and a chance to prove whether experience wins out over the message of “Change”. Whether America is ready for a black president, or if it is ready for the oldest first term president in American history.
I expect many things to happen during the upcoming general elections. As conservatives and the republican base try to shatter the Obama image, the slow but sure attempts of raising the issues of race, and even religion. Barack Obama will face a machine that swiftboated John Kerry, a decorated war hero, that in the end looked like the most unpatriotic American in all of history. Barack Obama will face an opponent that will mention even his name, Barack Hussein Obama, no doubt trying to instill a religious and cultural bias into the election. Even the Reverend Wright issue will again become a focus.
And most importantly, the focus on international policy will be the card that John McCain will most likely try to pursue. And my contention is, so what. John McCain’s foreign policy mirrors George W. Bush so much, that if I were Barack Obama I would welcome any debate on issues of foreign policy.
Yes, Mr. Obama, John McCain wants the job, he is in his last attempt, and a man faced with that prospect is as dangerous an enemy as you will ever want. Gear up, suit up, because Hillary is nothing compared to an entire army of conservatives who are hell bent on maintaining the status quo.
