Everyone Should Quit, And The Rest Imprisoned!
I realize that Manuel Quezon III is looking at the entirety of the tragedy when he says that, “Sulpicio Lines as a political ploy“. What is the best thing that The Arroyo Administration should be concentrating on to minimize political flak? In the viewpoint of Manuel Quezon III, it is to focus public sentiment against Sulpicio Lines.
But trust me, Sulpicio Lines is the weakest link. Bring them down, and the rest will be easier to tackle. I understand that there are those in the surrounding islands that have been battered by Typhoon Frank, and I won’t be the one to tell anyone not to focus attention on these poor folks, but let’s get this straight, there were 800 people in that ship, therefore it is all too natural to focus on this specific event in the entire tragedy that was caused by Typhoon Frank’s wrath.
There will be future Typhoons, more to come even this year, but 800+ individuals lost in sea, death by drowning, by a sinking ship, that is a feat that will rarely ever happen. It is the natural thing to focus on. And whether or not it is a convenient political ploy, I am all too willing to play, it is not the end game yet mind you, it should be just the beginning.
Sulpicio Lines is the weakest link, and if media can keep its short attention span out of this mess, then maybe we have a chance to bring this damn company down to its knees.
I agree with Manolo that in any other country the heads of these departments and government bodies would have resigned by now, but it’s not a rarity that they don’t resign either. Right now, I would like to focus attention on Sulpicio only because it is a fact of the matter, even in The Art of War, that the principle of focusing on one key objective instead of spreading yourself out thinly by attacking on too many sides, will eventually lead you to victory. So too, is a military principle of attacking an enemy not head on, but through its weakest link.
I have to believe, that at this point, with public outrage against Sulpicio Lines growing, the numerous insensitive actions, the lack of prudence and of taking more cautious actions, Sulpicio Lines is finding itself at the crosshairs of those who want accountability.
Indeed, if Sulpicio Lines is taken down, it will want to take down everyone else with them. And that’s a scenario I wouldn’t mind.
In my view, at the end of the day, the goal is to have everyone resign, have those specifically responsible imprisoned if possible, have lawsuits filed, and finally end the nightmare of many families by docking Sulpicio Lines in finality.
