Debunking The Ronald Reagan Excuse
There’s an all too often excuse utilized by some to perpetuate the notion that any actor can run, by giving the example of Ronald Reagan. Contrary to popular belief, he didn’t just jump out of a cake and announce his candidacy for Governor of California.
- He majored in economics and sociology
- Reagan was appointed a second lieutenant in the Officers’ Reserve Corps of the 322nd Cavalry
- Served as the president of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) total of 6 years
- Avid reader of American History and Economics
- Producer of “General Electric Theater”
- He was also active in political campaigns for politicians he supported
There are of course times in which actors have succeeded, but these are probably, at best, the exception not the rule. A good example of a successful actor turned politician is Arnold Schwrzenegger, but even he has had the leadership needed to mount a campaign, the conviction to stray away from partisanship, the street smarts to surround himself with excellent advisers, as well as appoint seasoned staff.
In any case, to those who would wish to use the never-ending excuse of “Actors can run, look at Ronald Reagan”. Don’t use that excuse unless you can back it up with excellent management, communication, motivational, speaking, and leadership skills.

Nick,
I may not be able to represent you as I am down with viral flu. I woke up yesterday with a very high fever. If my fever does not subside, I may have to forgo the opportunity you gave me. I will try to ask some of our friends to represent you instead. I’m terribly sorry to disappoint you. I’ll make it up to you somehow. Thanks for the privilege.
Schumey, not a problem. I’ve just informed Jun from Magandangbalita of the situation, and I’m sure they can handle it. There will probably be more than enough political bloggers attending anyway..
Hope you get well soon!
