Contradictions in Washington
While Bush says that a pullout of American Soldiers is a decision in “Cut and Run”, he lauds the decision of the British drawing down their support as a success.
In other CONTRADICTIONS: As Conservatives blast the democrats for their non binding resolution against the troop surge in Iraq, Secretary Rice is using the exact resolution to put pressure on the Iraqi government.
(From NY Times) The rare wartime rebuke to the commander in chief — an act that is not binding but carries symbolic significance — was approved 246 to 182, with 17 Republicans breaking ranks to join all but 2 Democrats in supporting the resolution.
Ms. Rice said she used the restiveness in Washington to underline for Iraqi officials the spread of American frustration with Iraq’s lagging political and economic progress.
She said she had “made clear that some of the debate in Washington is, in fact, indicative of the concerns that the American people have about the prospects for success†if Iraq’s leaders did not quickly take actions to ensure longer-term stability.
The Bush Administration, is clearly trying to pull off the same argument, but playing both sides, just depending on who their audiences are.
I contend that, the messages that are reaching our so called enemies, are those being given by the Republicans and The Bush Administration..
Republicans say, that if The troops pull out, there will be chaos, anarchy, genocide, and America will seem weak
This is the wrong message. This message tells the world, that there is no other choice. The choice of strategic pullout is slowly dying because the Republicans have taken it off of the table.
When decisions are made, without all the options in play, then the decisions made are no longer democratic ones, but ones that have been forced upon us by the weak and fearful.
Staying in a War because of Pride is also a reason unbecoming of statesmen.

Bush is full of rhetoric, because it is the only language he knows. The fact that he is trying to put a positive spin on the drawing down of troops is testament to fact that he just doesn’t know when to face facts.
