COMELEC Changes Mind On Zubiri Proclamation
I was literally writing an article with regards to the planned Wednesday proclamation of Migz Zubiri as the 12th Senator. But it seems that the COMELEC Changed it’s mind.
The Commission on Elections has deferred the proclamation of TEAM Unity’s Juan Miguel Zubiri as senator “until further notice” in deference to the Supreme Court, the poll body’s spokesman has said.
The high tribunal set oral arguments on Friday on a petition by Genuine Opposition’s Aquilino Pimentel III for a temporary restraining order on the Comelec’s proclamation of the 12th senator, in this case, of Zubiri, who in the latest tally of the poll body was ahead of Pimentel.
The Supreme Court had asked the Comelec to comment on Pimentel’s petition and submit its statement on or before 3 p.m. Thursday.
Earlier in the day, Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos said Zubiri would be proclaimed as the 12th senator on Wednesday.
It seems to me that Abalos was just a tad bit excited…
