CBCP Will Raise Hell

In light of the last fraudulent election, the CBCP made a public announcement for a fair and clean election this upcoming May. This announcement is more of a fair warning as the CBCP calls upon all their church leaders both nationally and locally, as well as other civic leaders to be the eyes and ears in ensuring a fair and honest election.

Now, considering that we all got the rug pulled right from under our feet in the last election, I’m not so sure that this will sway any plans for vote-buying, voter intimidation, mass fraud, and all that other dirty stuff…

Unresolved Issues

The P728 million Fertilizer fund, originally earmarked for the purchase of farm inputs, was believed to have been diverted and distributed as largesse to allies of the administration to ensure Ms Arroyo’s victory in the May 2004 presidential election. (via)

And don’t forget the “Hello Garci” tape scandal which was a clear indication to many Filipinos that the last election was a clear fraud.

CBCP Concerns

Two issues jumped out at me as the CBCP released their pastoral letter. Their concern with a few of Garci’s allies appointed to key positions in The Commission on Elections. As well as setting out a few characteristics that candidates must have in order to garner the people’s votes.

The CBCP is also quite aware of the struggle for the House of Representative as this will be the deciding body to move ahead any plans to impeach Gloria and bring down charges of corruption and voter fraud.
