Arroyo: No More Destablizing Our Democracy

In a statement by the President regarding the Arrest of alleged coup plotter and former Senator Gringo Honasan, she personally commended “the operatives who worked” on the case. She states further that she hopes that “there will be no more destablizing our democracy and our economy.”

Arroyo Waves

A very strong statement from a president who, just a few months ago, put the bounty on Honasan at P5 million pesos. Probably a very low bounty on a man that allegedly staged the failed mutiny in 2003 and yet another plot to oust the Arroyo Administration back in February.

The political instability that Honasan fueled has been definitely on the mind of Mrs. Arroyo. In fact she emphasised that “the people are tired of adventurism and seek opportunities to move up and forward in an atmosphere of political stability.”

So, does this mean that The Philippines is better now that Honasan is off the streets? What does this mean in eyes of the world? We’ll let the President answer that one for you…

“The confidence of the world in the Philippines grows firmer every passing day and we must put coup threats in the dustbin of history, and coup plotters in jail, as we traverse the long journey to the First World in the next two decades.”

The statement is strong and very much in a positive light. I think we are looking at a statement that for the first time actually sounds truly positive, and not just political rhetoric. Because for the first time in months, the man who was the most extreme threat in destablizing this government is off the streets. Obviously, there are still more coup plotters out there, but Honasan is definitely the big fish.

In conclusion The President ends on a very high note. She says that “it is time for solidarity and hard work, not messing up the lives of our people.”

Score one for the Arroyo Administration.

One Response to “Arroyo: No More Destablizing Our Democracy”

  1. She’s just lucky that she finally found Honasan. I think that destablization plots will definitely be eased. Honasan doesn’t have anything better to do anyways.

But, hey at least he was able to always go against the government. Now, to only find out who’s behind the killings of press and media?
