Antonio Trillanes, The iPhone, Honasan, And A Bad Second Day
Could the use of emails be where the Trillanes case is headed? As Senator Trillanes is disallowed to attend Senate Hearings, some Senators have suggested that he could use teleconferencing. All good, but I’ve tried teleconferencing before, and if it’s not state of the art, you will just be left singled out in the meeting, or in our case The Senate Sessions.
Maybe, in the end, Trillanes will only be allowed to send emails, or worse yet, use regular post mail. I suggest, using the iPhone.
But despite having had the second day as a non-action day made by The Senate, it seems that Senator Trillanes’ office is up and ready, albeit without the main guest himself to occupy the office.
Yesterday, the long debate as to whether or not The Senate should push ahead with a resolution calling on the courts to allow Senator Trillanes to attend Senate Sessions ended without any conclusion or resolution.
This is because four of the 22 senators did not sign the petition and kept the debate going. Joker Arroyo, Dick Gordon, Miriam, and Migz Zubiri were the four who did not sign. Leave it to Migz to propose rewording the resolution to vague words such as allowing Trillanes to perform his Senate Duties, or something to that fact, thus allowing teleconferencing.
I personally liked Joker’s statements where he admonishes Trillanes and tells him not to use the Senate as an avenue. Of course the courts will have to decide, but that doesn’t mean that The Senate is barred from showing support for their own. It’s not like Trillanes is asking them to dismiss his case, he just wants to work. Let the man work for goodness sake.
Honasan even though he signed the petition along with Enrile, was the butt of the Senate Jokes leveled against him by Nene Pimentel. Pimentel said that why should Trillanes still be behind bars, when the mastermind’s case has already been dismissed. This got a huge laughter in The Senate, but clearly Honasan was not pleased, and said afterwards, that he would remove his signature if Pimentel did not apologize.
I’m not all surprised by Honasan’s reaction. He has always shown to be a person who could not be counted on, but since Enrile is still counted among the signatories, Honasan may still decide to go along with his best friend Juan. Honasan has shown that he can jump ship as easy as moving from one dish to another on a buffet line. But considering that he has been where Trillanes is right this moment, I would have thought he could empathize more than the other Senators. I care not to waste anymore time with his lack of integrity.
In conclusion, the Senate is still on shaky grounds with regards to my trust. The Blue Ribbon Committee has yet to be final, and who knows whether or not Villar will stick to his guns. And Senator Trillanes, should already have been allowed to attend the meetings, but the Senate chose to debate non stop without any resolution.
Today is going to be another day. Let’s hope the Senate doesn’t waste another day debating whether or not Trillanes should be allowed to join the sessions. I don’t want this to become a mere Senate Email Session for Trillanes, who was clearly given the mandate by the Filipino people to investigate, and not have his arms tied.

hi!
I’m not sure how I got here either..maybe trough those crazy blog hopping. the web title just got my attention. my mom is bisdak so I kinda know some visayan words.
Poor Trillanes! It just shows how pathetic the administration is for not allowing him attend regular sessions. BUT, I can’t blame them. Trillanes is just one darn opposition senator, who is of course, known as the number critic of pGMA… kaya lang, being one of those who voted for this fearless-with-no-machinery senator-elect, I demand that he should be given the chance to be in the house. Enough with those debates!!!
@Thet, no matter how you got here, I’m glad that you were able to find it on this vast world we call the internet…

Tingog is a word that strikes at the heart of many Bisdaks, it is a word close to my heart, and indicative of our need to show that The People make up the government, and not just politicians..

Trillanes is a problem indeed for the Administration, he is probably the most extreme oppositionist among all the opposition members. His untied hands are needed to force the kind of investigations that we need for this government. With more plans to start handing out more and more pork for Congressmen, it’s likely that the money being used for these projects will be misused and even pocketed by corrupt officials. Trillanes needs to prove his worth, Those who voted for him deserve this much.
In the Oakwood episode, among the red flags raised by Antonio Trillanes IV is graft in the military, a component of the prevailing destructive corruption in the country. Is he justified? This is answered by the recent news that a former FOIC (Flag Officer in Command, meaning Navy Chief) was convicted, along with some subordinates, of malfeasance and infidelity in handling of funds….
…The Trillanes phenomenon is real, not a miracle, brought about by the ire of eleven million of our electorate. I did not vote for Trillanes for reasons I will not disclose here. But I will honor the concept that enough of the electorate selected him to symbolize their feeling of displeasure and represent their hopes and aspirations in the Senate. Now the task of supporters of Senator Trillanes has just begun, and I am including myself in the task. The foremost task is to protect him. He needs protection against those who threaten him as there are many who wield power and who would be elated to make him fail. There exist threats in the Senate, Santiago (remember Maid Miriam who eats threats for breakfast) and Enrile are potential interpellators with humongous arrogance…
… Senator Trillanes is resolute, an admirable quality in a leader. A lesser man would have buckled under the mental torture his jailors subjected him to, unlike his Magdalo comrades who did not have the stamina and fortitude; and succumbed, even finked, under the pressure. They were coerced into plea bargaining of guilty under a lesser charge of conduct unbecoming an officer and gentleman.
Trillanes could still be swayed by the inducement of being unshackled. Time will tell….
… I now disclose the reason I did not vote for him – the Oakwood incident harmed the economy. Some friends planned to visit Cagayan de Oro together with prospective investors who were persuaded to assess potentials for investment in the city, The Oakwood incident spooked that plan, completely, as the foreigners stayed away. A single instance that was typical.
So, why am I turning around and supporting this rascal as labeled by Arroyo and cohorts? In my opinion, there is a difference between Trillanes the Magdalo idealist and Trillanes the elected senator. The method used makes a world of difference. One is an attempt to make a change sans overt people support; the other resulted in an expression of the people’s sovereign will and power – the difference between revolution and election. I concede to the decision of the eleven million, and will oppose moves to frustrate their will.
I was there in the room with the Honorable Senator Antonio Trillanes. I genuflect at the title Honorable when it refers to Trillanes. He is not articulate in words but in deeds he has shown us what it means to have passion for our country.
So many of us are covering our backs. “ Lay low because Hello, Garci beneficiary and her 40 thieves are in power now. There is nothing we can do about it now. Wait till 2010. Who else would lead us ? “
“ They are all the same. As soon as a Filipino is in power, then corruption will start. “ are yet more lies that have crippled us. But among the biggest lies are “ We will address these controversies through the proper forum. Meanwhile, we have to focus on the economy…. I will not seek re-election in 2004. “
These are the refrains which ring in our ears. Like the 6,000,000 Jews who walked sheepishly to their deaths, we Filipinos are pretending that we are better off with the impostor we know. There is no arrogance in Hon. Trillanes’ demand. He can lead us. You can lead us. I can lead us. All we need are leaders who can inspire us with their determination and desire to be honest.
What can you and I do ? Talk about how we feel. Don’t let a chance conversation with a stranger pass by without bringing up the subject of our political situation. There is no need to fight with people who have opposing views. The conversation will surely get heated up but do not get involved with fighting with each other.
In cocktail parties, don’t waste time introducing yourselves. Forget small talk about the weather. Jump right in and mention something about today’s news. On almost any given day, the publicized incidents that should offend our moral values are splattered in our front pages. But like the child who has been beaten and abused, we crawl in our corners and allow the culture of impugnity to grow.
These abuses will continue as long as the mastermind remains in power.
And don’t end the exchange with a ‘hay naku, mag ballroom nalang tayo.’
We are the victims just like Honorable Senator Trillanes who was led away by the belt around his waist, we have been pretending that we have freedom and live in a democracy. When the Supreme Court can vote in favor of allowing Maguindanao votes to let Miguel Zubiri be a senator ; when Congress can damn even the word
‘ noted ‘ and make us all lose our respect for one of the most revered words ; when the Senate loses its ability to follow through with any of their investigations, then , my friend, there is no democracy.
Remember that guy who was killed when he took over the airport tower ? Who was he again ? Panfilo Villaruel wanted to bring our attention to the corruption. Who remembers Amando Ducat? How about Bing Rodrigo ? Rumors had it that she ran away from Malacanang office because of the stealing that she was a witness to.
Let’s play a game. You name one scandal and your other friend can reply with another scandal. Let’s limit these scandals from Jan. 21, 2001 to the present day. Start with the IMPSA. Ready. Steady. Fire.
The winner is the one who can name even one forum that any of these scandals got investigated in and resolved to our satisfaction. Then just for fun, practice the famous lines which the VERY ARTICULATE people have learned to say with their annoying intonation. ‘ Let us not be detracted from our focus on the economy. “
Yes, Honorable Trillanes, Honorable General Lim, Honorable Guingona, Your Excellency Bishop Labayen, you have made us kalabit ; we will rely on the power of our mouth.
