Sulpicio Lines Is Still At It

No I will not relent against Sulpicio Lines, it has taken off its mask, and has made itself known to be the selfish company that it is. It has gone out and slapped lawsuits on most every government agency as well as another private company. It is moving to stop investigations too. And now, it is trying to pass all the responsibility in salvaging the ship that may still contain hundreds of dead bodies, to its insurance company.

It first started this onslaught by trying to portray itself as a caring company, by flashing P200,000 in front of the families of the victims, too bad that the P200,000 doesn’t actually come from its own pockets but from the pockets of its insurance company.

Even then, so few have received this “gift” of P200,000, and if they did, they were forced to agree that they would not file future lawsuits against Sulpicio Lines.

Now, this Thursday, we are going to wait on the decision from the courts on whether or not The Board of Marine Inquiry will be allowed to continue with its investigations. Yes, because Sulpicio Lines complained that they don’t have the right to mount an investigation. In short, delay, delay, delay, while Sulpicio Lines scrambles to get its political connections to bat for them in Congress.

And yes, I’ve been criticized for initiating the blogswarm, because as DJB puts it, we should wait for an investigation. Suffice it to say, my short answer is, wait for what? We already know that Sulpicio should hold part of the liability for making the decision to head on out to the troubled waters during Typhoon Frank. I don’t regret the blogswarm one bit, and in fact, another one will be scheduled in two weeks, I’ll announce it later this week.

I wrote a lengthy post over at FilipinoVoices regarding my stand on the continuing Sulpicio Lines Saga, and how we need not wait to realize that the benefit of the doubt should not be given to Sulpicio Lines. In fact, I go further and say that everyone is at fault, my previous articles here will point that out. The Philippine Coast Guard, MARINA, PAGASA, and Sulpicio — heads better roll.
