Still Missing

My cousin is still missing, and although I have lost hope in ever finding him alive, I still would like to have his body for a proper burial. And, because of the stupidity and clear lack of leadership in both the government and Sulpicio Lines, many bodies were buried already, on site, but at least there is word that they are going to start exhuming the bodies for identification purposes.

As for personal updates on my families ordeal, let’s just say that we aren’t fans of Sulpicio and their selfish need to make the process of finding their loved ones as easy as possible. They are making it as tough as possible, and as per conversation with one of my other cousins, they are really dragging their feet. I believe him. To see is to believe.

The bodies, 40+, that arrived yesterday in Cebu, none of them were my cousin’s. Suffice it to say, my cousin’s wife is still hopeful that Bebot will be one of the survivors. I’m too much of a realist to think that, but I don’t have the heart to tell her that at the moment, nor do I have the heart to tell my aunt, or Bebot’s daughter.

Right now, as we have been saying, all we can do is pray.

Sulpicio on the other hand has been all over the place, trying to put the blame on everyone else except themselves. They are pulling out all the stops, not telling anyone about the pesticides, slow to act during the first 24 hours of the disaster, having the gall to start talking about money and the measly P200k that they are going to provide the families.

Tell me, what the hell is Sulpicio going to provide, for the grief, for the paperwork that has been needed, for the loss of income due to death, and so much more… As my aunt said, we don’t need their stinking money, we just need our loved ones back.

I am in agreement, but if Sulpicio wants to talk money. Let’s put the number a bit higher so that their damn business will finally cease to exist. P5 million for each victim. In all honesty, the money that Bebot would have made, had he lived, is 25 times more than what Sulpicio is willing to give.

If the government can do anything right with this disaster, the only thing left to do, is to file a criminal case against this damn company.

Right now, my family is in a waiting mode, as the dead are slowly (very slow) being recovered, I can’t do anything else but wait.

But in the coming days, more actions will be undertaken, this I promise. Aside from personal worries, I am also asking everyone to give to The Philippine Red Cross for disaster relief efforts, especially in the case of the children of San Fernando, Sibuyan, please check out Cathy’s blog for details on how you can contribute.

As I said before, Cathy has always been an inspiration to me, and she continues to be as such, especially in the light of her big heart in helping in whatever capacity she can.

  1. This must be difficult for you and your family. Continue praying.

  2. I pray for you on this difficult time. I am deeply saddened as well as very angry with what happened all because of Sulpicio’s greed. I hope they (culprits in this tragedy) all rot in hell.
