2007 Philippine Midterm Election Update: 06-07-07
The 2007 Philippine Midterm Election is drawing to a close, with yesterday’s proclamation of 10 Senators, we are still waiting for the last two spots to be proclaimed. Trillanes will definitely retain his 11th ranking, and then there is the 12th spot which is what everyone is looking at now. Both Koko Pimentel and Migz Zubiri are now battling it out for that last spot. Personally, I think there is already a finality in the Senate Elections, and that the 12th spot will go to Koko Pimentel.
The 10 Proclaimed Senators
Loren Legarda
Francis Escudero
Panfilo Lacson
Manuel Villar
Francis Pangilinan
Noynoy Aquino
Edgardo Angara
Alan Peter Cayetano
Joker Arroyo
Gringo Honasan
Because of another reset in canvassing of four provinces (Lanao Del Sur, Surigao Del Norte, Basilan, and Maguindanao), the 11th and 12th spot could not be proclaimed by the Comelec last night. The canvassing has been reset again until Friday, which I won’t hold my breath for. Lanao Del Sur officials are probably still trying to do some magic, and Maguindanao for all its miracles has been declared a failure of election.
The Comelec has announced a failure of election in Maguindanao, and may hold a special election in the 21 towns of Maguindanao before the June 30 deadline set by the constitution. With no Certificate of Canvass and Statement of Votes coming from the Muncipal Board of Canvassers, there is no documentation to validate the Maguindanao Election.
Of all the announcements, I still haven’t heard the name Rey Sumalipao (The Regional Director for ARMM) come up, and even the hunt for the elusive Bedol is coming up empty. If you don’t know who Bedol is, just read my previous entries about this scumbag. here, here, and here.
Of course, a failure of election, and a subsequent order for a “Special Election” in Maguindanao would probably favor Migz Zubiri, since the watchdogs and citizen groups have almost exhausted its own volunteers for this election. But if the margin is wide enough, Migz may finally see the light, and throw in the towel. Even Namfrel has stopped its quick count.
