Black Eyed Peas win Three AMA Awards

The Black Eyed Peas were the biggest winner last Tuesday night, November 21, at the American Music Awards (AMA). With three (3) awards — best rap/hip-hop album, best rap/hip-hop group, and best soul/R&B group. This is for their album “Monkey Business.
Ever since their breakthrough single “Where is the Love”, the Black Eyed Peas have never looked back.
I just love the Black Eyed Peas and having a Filipino in the group is just a plus. I don’t think there’s anyone in The Philippines who doesn’t know who the Filipino is in the Black Eyed Peas. Apl.de.ap is his music name. But, anyone who saw his lifestory in “Maalala Mo Kaya” will know that his real name is Allen Pineda Lindo.
So much is Allen’s pride in The Philippines, that the album “Elephunk” features a well known tagalog song “Balita”. APL makes this song his own and throws in the Black Eyed Peas flavor. Even their award winning “Monkey Business” also features a nice tagalog song “Bebot”.
Allen Pineda our favorite Filipino rapper, break dance guru, and a source of national pride.

Pero masaya parin ang kulay
Pag kumain nagkakamay
Yong kanin, chicken adobo
Yong balot, binebenta sa kanto
Tagay mo na nga ang baso

And here’s my other favorite Black Eyed Peas song: APL SONG
Lapit mga kaibigan at makinig kayo
Ako’y may dala-dalang, balita galing sa bayan ko
Nais kong ipamahagi ang mga kwento
Ang mga pangyayaring nagaganap
Sa lupang pinangako
Every place got a ghetto this is my version
Check it out…
Listen closely yo, I got a story to tell
A version of my ghetto where life felt for real
Some would call it hell but to me it was heaven
God gave me the grace, amazin’ ways of living
How would you feel if you had to catch your meal?
Build a hut to live and to eat and chill in.
Having to pump the water outta the ground
The way we put it down utilizing what is around
Like land for farming, river for fishing
Everyone helpin’ each other whenever they can
We makin’ it happen, from nothin’ to somethin’
That’s how we be survivin’ back in my homeland
Yo, its been a while but…
I been back home to my homeland, (check it out) to see what’s going on
Man it feels good to be back at home
And it’s been a decade, on the journey all alone
I was fourteen when I first left Philippines
I’ve been away half my life, but it felt like a day
To be next to my mom with her home cooked meal
Meant I felt complete, my emotions I feel!
Now life has changed for me in the U.S
But back at home man, life was a mess…
I guess sometimes life’s stresses gets you down
On your knees, oh brother I wish I could have helped you out…
Here’s the original song “Balita”, from which the Chorus of “APL song” is based:
CHORUS

[...] And on a lighter note. The pride of Filipinos. With Manny Pacquiao, I think the Filipinos would probably vote them in as President and Vice President (But please don’t). Time Magazine writes about Efren in a general way and exposes the general plight of the Filipino, growing up in an impoverished city (such as the case with apl.de.ap in our previous article), an individual has to decide to rise above the poverty. “growing up dirt poor in Angeles City, Pampanga, presents a man with countless ways to go awry. But Reyes possessed so miraculous a talent that nothing, ultimately, could deviate him from his true calling.” [...]
