Group Writing Project: Write For Musa Dimasidsing
I don’t do writing projects, but this is going to be an exception. The fact that the truth is being kept from the Filipino public once again, is too much to bear. And the fact that someone trying to do the right thing was shot dead is something not to take lightly.
Musa Dimasidsing, a school district supervisor, and a designated election supervisor, stood up, in the face of death, because he knew that it was the right thing to do. He was the one who exposed the anomalies in Maguindanao, and he was shot dead on Saturday night.
Musa Dimasidsing, 60, sustained two gunshot wounds in the head and body, he had exposed the alleged fraudulent mayoral race in his hometown where the prominent Montawal and Matalam political clans were at loggerheads.
Now as Filipinos, let us write and make our voices heard. I believe a collective voice on this issue will do a lot to make the sentiments of the Filipinos known. We can make a difference, we can change The Philippines.

Background on Musa Dimasidsing and Maguindanao Elections
The Maguindanao elections were a focus early on during the elections, even before the elections took place, watchdogs noted a supposed plan that would commit wholesale fraud in 15 provinces, Maguindanao was one of those provinces. Then came the news of a 12-0 sweep in Maguindanao, and subsequently came the report of 19 candidates with zero votes.
Starting as early as May 18, there were already reports of anomalies, and starting as early as May 20, NAMFREL and other groups reported that they were not allowed to observe the Provincial Canvassing of the Maguindanao Votes. The Comelec Provincial Supervisor for Maguindanao, Lintang Bedol, even confirmed that no one was able to witness the canvassing.
It has been over two weeks since the provincial canvass in Maguindanao, and when Lintang Bedol provided the provincial Certificate of Canvass to the Comelec, The Comelec decided to set aside the votes because of the improbable 19 candidates with zero votes. But Comelec never bothered to ask Lintang Bedol as to where the Municipal Certificates of Canvass (MCOC), Statement of Votes (SOV), the election returns (ER), and other documents were located. That was over two weeks ago, and in that two weeks, Lintang Bedol, has eluded media and even Comelec, and never said anything about lost documents, including the MCOCs. It’s peculiar that it is only now that Lintang Bedol has given this excuse.
Right now, Comelec is considering a Failure of Election, which can only be declared if no voting actually took place. But there is contention that voting indeed took place, but that cheating in the form of vote padding occurred. Thus I have concluded, myself, that there was not a failure of election, but a “failure of Comelec”.
Dimasidsing, the designated election supervisor in Maguindanao during the elections, reportedly witnessed the alleged rigging of the votes in the province.
He also filed a complaint against several members of the Board of Election Inspectors after accusing them of committing irregularities in the canvassing of results in Pagalungan.
Dimasidsing was said to be the one who also confirmed the testimonies of Pagalungan Elementary School teachers that they were harassed and intimidated by political operators behind the town’s election irregularities.
He also reported to authorities that four ballot boxes were snatched by armed men believed working for a politician in Pagalungan during the May 14 elections.

Remember, we can make a difference. Let us not remain silent, but united in our voice. No matter what political affiliation you are with, it doesn’t matter, because we can unite and make it known, that the death, courage, and patriotism of Musa Dimasidsing will not go in vain. The truth is not partisan.

Nick,
I can only contribute my personal sentiment that Mr Dimasidsing died a true hero. He deserves that fitting epitaph. That’s an additional sin to the list of crimes committed under this evil regime.
His death must not be buried in the current events of this year’s election heist. His death must serve a purpose - to break the wall of silence and this well of impunity.
i really what to participate with it. but it’s about politics while my blog is about money.
Sir,
I will write something about the incident. I’ll just have to solve a few problems regarding our dormitory in UP.

I sent you an email with my response. I hope you don’t censor it, I’m as mad as everyone else about this. Kahit I am a GMA supporter, hindi dapat na ganito. I admire Musa for his courage too.
Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog and for starting this project. I’ve just got back to the Philippines after the long weekend so I had not heard about this latest atrocity. Well done for trying to get something going on this — the death of this brave man should not go unnoticed. I’ll try to write something this week.
Count me in Nick. I’m just waiting for all facts to come in. I do have an entry on Bedol but just waitng for the COMELEC’s final decision. This was somehow preempted by the Dumasidsing’s demise. Kudos and take care my friend. We will be entering a phase in blogging.

Hi Nick,
Thank you for visiting my site, I’ve already written a tribute to Musa Dimasidsing, and an excerpt can be found below:
“Who among the many can compare the heroic act of protecting the sanctity of the ballots as that done by one Musa Dimasidsing, a Filipino Muslim patriot? It is still wonderful to note that a very remote man of integrity, brave and true, can spill blood of his own to rise above him, protecting what he believed to be a sanctified vote for all his people.”
I hope this would lighten out darker side of those who killed him.
