1. As of now the politician spending millions of peso to win in this election, but if you notice how much salary per month they can earn.
2. I work in abroad as engineer, if you compare my salary with one of politician person even the lowest politician, may be quit bigger my salary. But If you notice other government politician they have only PhP 30,000 a month of salary but they have a lot of big houses, cars, maid to serve them and etc, they have a very high life style, but the amount of salary they earn is not enough even the maintenance of their houses.
3. The other politicians, after they win in this election they never do their job, its happen fighting and fighting and talking a rubbish word to the other politicians member in a whole term once they if seat in Malacaniang.
4. Now the Philippines is 1st in Asia for corruption and still GROWING-UP. This is very bad to hear but this true, hopefully if one of this persons win in this coming election, I will pray to God that they will do their job honestly, not for them self interest. Hoping they will help the Philippine government to move upward not to move downward. I this time the Philippine is going down because of over politics.
5. The Philippine form of government is almost same with United States of America, this United State they have 24 senator, Governor, Mayors and etc. Imagine the land area of United State is quit bigger in our land area, why we need to make 24 senators, this is additional cost in our government, may be we need to reduce the other government position to save big amount of money. We have a lot of position in government but still useless. We have a lot of law but useless.
6. Hoping they will help the government to move upward, because last time our economy in Philippine is TIGER IN ASIA, now is a RAT IN ASIA. Hoping no politician wars inside Malacaniang. Hoping stop the corruption in Philippines, stop self interest “UNAHIN NA MUNA ANG BAYAN WAG BULSA MUNA”.

nice meeting you as a fellow carolinian. unfortunately, i was not with the tingog party, i belong to stand student party, i dont know if they still exists now, mga circa early 90’s ko member. i was one of the USC-SCC councilors for sciences sa STAND. maybe you know kung asa na ni cla karon? i know that Bisoy (Orven Enoveso) President of Stand is still with Shiela and the Insects (the rock group). would like to meet some of my Tingog contemporaries, though. i dont know what year you were in USC, we might have have bumped each other if you belong to the circa early 90’s. padayon bisdak!

Hi Dr. Tes, I think STAND in USC still exists. I know some of their present members. They’ve taken the top seats and majority of the USC-SSC for the past two years. However, I think STAND was the minority party before 2006 for around 4 years or so.
I’m not from USC though, I’m from UP in Lahug.

Just recently received a copy of the Malu Fernandez “Boracay to Greece” article and followed the whole hoopla on your website. It’s good she resigned. God-forbid that she suffer the same fate as our faithful OFWS, who generate billions for the Philippines. Having worked with intelligent OFWs in my stint as editor for a magazine circulated in Hongkong, I am appalled at what she wrot. One can be witty without being insulting.
Thanks to the articles/emails re Malu Fernandez that I am able to discover this interesting website.
Its good to hear that she has finally resigned. I just dont understand why these newpapers/magazines published
such write ups. They should have known better. Ganyan ba ang mga writers sa mga tabloid na yan?

If this tabloid doesnt do anything about what is written in their articles than it is just right to boycott this newspaper.
OFWs in Nigeria reacted with outrage over the column of Sen. Mar Roxas in the tabloid Abante where he called for Filipinos not to accept jobs in Nigeria and for existing OFWs there to come home.
The reactions were a mixed of dismay to virulent comments from OFWs based in Nigeria and Saudi.
The OFWs’ reaction can be likened to Malu Fernandez’ incident judging by the volume of email reactions sent and forwarded to other OFWs.
The reactions were directed not only to the email of Sen. Mar Roxas, but also to other senators with published email.
Because of the reactions, the office of Senator Mar Roxas was forced to issue a reply apologizing to the OFWs that his column has caused.
However, OFWs continued with their email campaign and petition to lift the ban on Nigeria.
Below are some of the reactions from various OFWs:

Ikinagagalak po namin ang pagtawag ninyo sa amin bilang mga MODERN DAY HEROES. Bilang mga BAGONG BAYANI nawa eh pakinggan ninyo at paglaanan ng panahon itong aming mga sinasabi
Correct me if I’m wrong, Pilipinas lang ang bukod tangi at nag iisang bansa ang naglabas ng TOTAL BAN papunta dito sa Nigeria . Kung sa bawat bansa na may makikidnap ay magpapalabas kayo ng Ban sa pangunguna pa naman ni Kabayang NOLI eh siguro marapat din na mag BAN kayo sa ibang bansa. Tama po ba? Nung nakaraang lingo ay may namatay na pinay sa Canada, o bakit di kayo mag impose ng Ban doon para maipakita sa ating mga kababayan sa Pilipinas na CONCERN kayo sa aming mga OFW. Siguro sasabihin ninyo na isolated case iyon. Eh kung sabihin din natin na ang nangyari kay G. Bacani ay isolated case din.
I doubt kung sakaling may ma rape sa Saudi ay mag impose kayo ng Ban doon. I doubt kung sakaling may namatay sa UAE ay mag impose kayo ng Ban doon.
Sa bilang ng OFW sa lugar ng Niger Delta siguro eh maaaring meron na makasama na Pinoy sa makikidnap. Ratio and Proportion po, ganun kasimple. Pero bakit ang ibang mga nasyon ay di naglalabas ng total ban. May namatay po nung nakaraan na isang British National, pero bakit hindi sila naglabas ng ganyang kautusan. ILL- ADVISED.
Kasabay ng pagkidnap kay G. Bacani ay nasawimpalad at namatay ang isa nyang kasamahan na Columbiano, PERO BAKIT hindi sila (Columbian Govt.) nag impose ng ban para sa mga overseas workers nila na nandito? Kayo lamang na mga administrador – Vice Pres, DOLE, POEA, NBI ang bigla biglang nagpalabas ng ganyang kautusan.
Ang mga tao po dito sa embahada natin ay di man lamang hiningan ng inputs bago kayo nag implement ng ban na yan. May mga kasama po kami na nagtanong muna sa mga tao ng Embassy kung mag ba BAN ba, ng sa ganun eh hindi sana sila muna magbabakasyon gaya ng nangyari nung Pebrero ng taong ito. Since nagbigay sila ng GUARANTEE na hindi naman daw, sumulong ang iba naming kasamahan. Sa puntong ito lumalabas na TRINAYDOR sila. Nasaan sila, andun sa kanilang mga bahay, dumadalangin na sana ma-lift ang BAN. May iniaabot ba naman ang gobyerno sa kanila pra pangtustos sa kanilang araw araw na gastos. Saan sila ngayon kukuha ng pambayad sa eskwela, ang baon ng mga bata, ang pang monthly amortization sa bahay, sasakyan or lupa?
Sa ginawa po ninyong ito ay inalisan nyo ng karapatan na magkaroon ng oportunidad na magtrabaho at iangat ang antas ng aming mga sariling buhay. Para kaming mga bata na inagawan ng kendi, buti sana kung may TOBLERONE kayong ipapalit dito, pero WALA naman. Ang nangyari tuloy ay napipilitan ang mga kumpanya na kumuha ng ibang lahi para sa sana eh mga posisyon at trabaho para sa Pilipino.
Sabi ni Sen. Mar Roxas sa kanyang kolum sa ABANTE, “Payong kapatid lamang, siguro’y mas mainam na dito na lamang kayo makipagsapalaran sa ating bayan.”. Ang malaking katanungan po para sa amin ay kung sakali bang umuwi kami ng Pilipinas, may naghihintay bang trabaho para sa amin? May mga programa bang nakalaan para sa amin? Base sa nakaraang pag impose ninyo ng ban nung February 2007, may napala ba yung mga na-stranded dyan sa atin? May nakuha ba sila mula sa ipinagmamalaking OWWA, POEA at DOLE, wala po, ni SINGKONG DULING!
Madali pong sabihin para sa kanya dahil sa estado ng kanyang buhay. Pero naranasan na ba nyang pumila sa mga agency sa Malate, Singalong…Sa dami ng nag aapply gusto nyo bang makidagdag pa kami doon?
Ang nangyayari na pagkidnap sa Niger Delta ay di natin pwedeng ikumpara sa sitwasyon ng Jolo, Sulu. Unang una, dito po ay ganitong sequenze ang nangyayari KIDNAP-RANSOM-RELEASE. Mas mainam pa rin kung tutuusin kesa sa pamumugot ng ulo na ginagawa ng mga bandido sa atin. Kahit po ang gobyerno ng America sa aking pagkakaalam (correct me again if I’m wrong) ay di naglabas ng Total Ban na magpunta dyan ang kanilang mga citizens, manapay isang ADVISORY LAMANG. Ano ang mararamdaman ninyo kung ang i-impose nila ay TOTAL BAN sa kahit saang sulok ng Pinas kasi magulo sa Sulu lamang.
Dito, inimpose nyo na buong Nigeria samantalang sa iisang lugar lang may nagaganap na kidnap for ransom na sitwasyon. Kung ikukumpara naman sa atin di hamak na dito di ka maga alala na ma-snatch ang celfone mo. Di ka kinakabahan pag naglalakad ka sa kalye na baka may holdaper. Subukan nyo pong magpunta dito para makita at maranasan nyo ang aming mga sinasabi. Ika nga ni Kasamang Manny G. Figueroa, bukas ang kanyang bahay para sa inyo.
Ngayon, kung talaga naman na di na kayo matitinag sa inyong desisyon, siguro (I don’t know If everybody will agree with my proposal here), Papirmahin nyo na lang kami ng waiver, any OFW who will go to NIGERIA is obliged to sign it. Waiver na magsasabing kung may mangyari sa amin dito ay wala kayong sagutin. DAHIL SA TOTOO WALA NAMAN TALAGA KAMING AASAHAN SA INYO. Ano po ba ang napapala namin sa pagkuha ng OEC (Overseas Employment Certificates) ? Maliban sa libreng Kape sa airport, nakakatipid lang kami ng mga 600 siguro. (700 po kasi ang tax pag walang OEC minus 100 kaya 600 hindi pa kasama dito ang pamasahe at pagkain sa pagpunta sa POEA Centers). Isipin nyo din po na sa bawat bakasyon namin na kukuha kami nyang OEC ay isang araw ang nawawala sa amin.
Since tinuturing nyo rin naman na kami eh BAGONG BAYANI, sana maramdaman namin yun. Ikaw nga ni Sen. Roxas sa banding huli mas mainam pa rin ang gawa kaysa saita. Siguro panahon na rin na bigyan nyo kami ng proteksyon. Ito ang panahon para kayo ay magpa POGI. Dahil kayo ay mga mambabatas, bakit di kayo bumalangkas ng mga programa para sa mga OFW.
Muli po, correct me if I’m wrong kung ang mga sasabihin ko ay mali or ang mga programang aking babanggitin ay existing na pala. Ito ay sa kadahilanang hindi ko alam na meron na pala,or hindi lang siguro nabigyan ng wastong kaalaman ukol dito.
Ang bawat OFW na umaalis ay natitigil ang pagbabayad ng SSS, maliban na lamang kung ikaw ay boluntaryong maghuhulog nito. Siguro dapat nating paalalahanan ang mga agency na i-discuss ito sa mga taong pinapaalis nila, dahil saying naman yung mga ilang taong paghuhulog mo tapos mababalewala na dahil di ka naman na inform. Maaari din naman sigurong i-obliga ng ating batas na magbabayad din ang OFW kaalinsabay ng pagbabayad ng kumpanyang kanyang pagta trabahuhan. Di po ba sa atin ay ganyan ang kalakaran, ang kumpanya at ang empleyado ay parehas na may share sa contributions. Bakit hindi rin natin ito gawin para sa mga BAGONG BAYANI?
Sa kawalan ng proteksyon, marami pong cases na ang mga properties ng isang OFW (kotse, bahay, lupa) ay nahahatak ng bangko. Kahit pa sabihin halimbawa na 3 buwan na lamang ang di mo pa nahuhulugan, walang awa nila itong hahatakin. Sana po magkaroon naman ng kaunting konsiderasyon para sa isang BAYANI na tulad namin. Kaunting flexibility kumbaga. Alam kong maraming factor kayo na i-co consider pero sana mabigyan nyo ng panahon na pag aralan ito.
Ang ibang mga nasyon na nagtatrabaho sa ibang bansa ay may mga insurances na kasama sa benefits nila dahil obligado ang kumpanya na mag provide nito. Bakit ang Pilipinas ay walang ganito?
Ang embahada po ng Pilipinas sa Nigeria ay nasa Abuja samantalang ang entry point po ng mga OFW ay nasa Lagos (ang pamasahe po papunta dito ay humigit kumulang sa 100 US Dollar or 4400 pesos). Siguro yung nabanggit ni Se. Roxas na budget ay maaari nyang ilaan dito. Maglagay ng kahit isang munting opisina sa Lagos.
Bigyan ng proteksyon ang buying power ng OFW. Isarado sa 50 pesos = 1 dollar hanggat di tumataas ang dollar rate.
Bigyan ng wastong kaalaman ang mga OFW tungkol doon sa MULTIPLE OEC? Sa mga di po nakakaalam, meron daw na multiple OEC, ibig sabihin kung sa loob ng isang taon ay 2 o mahigit pa na lumalabas ka ng bansa, pwede ka ng kumuha ng maramihan nito. Meron nga ba nitong multiple OEC? Bakit di ini-explain or ipost man lang sa mga POEA Centers? Kung ang isang OFW ay may 15 days na bakasyon, 1 araw nito ay gugugulin nya sa pagpunta sa POEA para makakuha ng OEC. Bakit hindi po kaya natin ilagay yung POEA for 24 hours operation sa NAIA. Yung tipong paglabas namin ng eroplano ay pwede ka ng kumuha ng OEC. Yung sinasabi ni Sen Roxas na dagdag na budget eh siguro pwedeng ilaan sa mga empleyado na magta trabaho sa ganitong purpose.
Pagkalampas po ng Customs sa NAIA sa banding kanan ay may booth doon ang POEA, nakasulat po na napakalaki 24-HOURS ON DUTY. Ng itanong ko sa Security Guard, eto ang kanyang sagot “Ay hanggang 5pm lang po sila”. Kalimitan po 10 or 11 PM dumadating ang mga OFW na galing sa Nigeria , kaya siguro marapat na totohanin ang ganitong programa na 24 HOURS na may POEA para dun na kami kukuha ng OEC. Sayang din naman kasi ang oras, pagod sa pagbyahe at gastos sa pagpunta sa POEA sa Ortigas or sa mga branches nila. Tama po ba?

Pero Di na kailangan iyan ano Senador, kasi, di mo napag aralan na madaming bersyon ang ibig sabihin ng OFW sa Nigeria ,
“OKEY FOR WAR” kami dito.
Ikaw naman kasi, basta basta ka na lang nakiki sawsaw sa mga bali balitang OFW eh, titimbre ka muna, papa ano na iyan, mas madami na naiinis sa iyo kesa sa natuwa. Ayos lang iyan, di ka pa naman nag kakasala ay pinatawad ka na namin, kasi inosente ka sa mga ibang mga pangyayari, kulang sa realedad na kaalaman, di mo sinala ang mga impormasyon mo na napulot.
So saan ka lalagay sa ngayon, bukas, at sa hinaharap, muli at muli ka naming susubaybayan sa iyong pitak, araw araw iyan naming babasahin at mamatyagan, hindi mahirap aminin ang pagkakamaling pagsusulat, kung nakakasagasa din naman kami ng damdamin.
Inumpisahan mo kasi, kaya tatapusin namin ito na kasama ka sa aming pag sang ayon, saan ba ang pag sisilbi mo sa iyong layunin at adhikain, sa boses ba ng iilan o sa mga kahilingan at daing ng mga nakararami.
Hinihingi namin ngayon ang iyong suporta, bago maging huli ang lahat….parang bata kami na inagawan mo ng kendi niyan ahhh, palitan mo naman ito ng tinapay, may kasama pang pampadighay, papasko pa naman.
Hindi mo na kailangan pang magpasa ng ano pa mang batas, di mo na kailangang mag isip pa sa mga dadaang gabi. SIMPLE LANG GAGAWIN MO.

I totally salute you with all your endeavors in suppporting the OFW. Job seekers should be cautious with the online job offers in Nigeria , considering the fact that most offers are scam especially if asking for fees. However, I believe that Filipinos who has a good job offer from credible local agencies should not be banned of doing so, much more for those who had been in Nigeria for long period of time. Its easy to say for the OFW to find a job in the Philippines (as you said ‘mas mainam na dito na lamang makipagsapalaran sa ating bayan’). But, is there really an opportunity in the Philippines ? And if there is, does it offer a salary comparable to the salary being offered in Nigeria ? Well, you can discourage OFW to work in Nigeria by giving an advise, but not to the extent of stopping them to work for their children’s future. Its not only the Filipinos who are working in Nigeria , other nationalities are dominating the workforce, but its only the Philippines which is doing this incomprehensible action of total ban. Our co-workers from other countries are telling that the decision of the country for total ban is a violation of human right. They have the point coz the government is restricting our freedom to move and get better opportunities. Also take note that despite of the kidnapping experience of Mr. Bacani, he still wants to come back and work with the same company he is working. Why? Simply because he could not think of any other opportunity that could match his salary and benefits. OFW are like soldiers who are willing to deploy themselves for a cause, and soldiers has the 50% chance to loose their lives during the mission. In the case of OFW in Nigeria , the risk of being killed and kidnapped is not as high as the risk of death of soldiers. OFWs are ready to face the challenge of working in Nigeria especially for those who have been working there almost half of their career duration. They have the courage to deal with these to provide a better life for the family and for the future of their children. Kidnapping is everywhere, and even in the Philippines, it’s rampant, and the sad thing is, some being kidnapped are either being raped or killed even a ransom has been provided. The life in the big cities in the Philippines is even more dangerous than the life here in Nigeria . Even in the big malls in the Philippines , kidnapping, hold-up and snatching are happening, much more while riding jeepneys and other public vehicles. If solving the kidnapping incidents in Nigeria is an issue leaving it as a problem to the Philippine government, I believe there are more problems in other countries like Saudi Arabia . But, why the country is continuosly sending OFWs there? Regarding the appeal of the government for voluntary repatriation, is the Philippine government has an alternative program for the OFW in Nigeria ? Is the government capable of providing the basic needs of the family of the Nigeria OFWs? Many filipinos in squatter areas are still dying of starvation, and most filipinos commit crime or have been involve into drugs to fill their empty stomachs. This is the real problem that needs solution.

Mayroon na rin kasing mga Pilipino na na-kidnap ng mga rebeldeng grupo sa bansang iyon habang tahimik lamang na nagtatrabaho ang mga ito. Payong kapatid lamang, siguro’y mas mainam na dito na lamang kayo makipagsapalaran sa ating bayan.”
Tunay po na magulo ang Niger Delta subalit kung ito’y ihahambing sa ating bansa maihahalintulad natin ito sa kalagayan ngayon ng Mindanao . ang kaguluhang nangyayari ngayon sa Niger Delta ay hindi po nasasakop ang buong bansang Nigeria . Papano na lang po ang hindi nagtatrabaho sa Niger Delta? Napakalawak po na bansa ang Nigeria at hindi po buong bansa ang apektado.
Sinabi nyo po na mas mainam diyan na lang po makipagsapalaran. Isang tanong lang po, ano po ba ang maidudulot ng ating pamahalan kung sakaling kaming lahat (Higit 4000 manggagawa) ang umuwi sa ating bansa? Mayroon po bang matibay na programa ang ating pamahalaan para sa mga OFW na umuuwi at diyan nalang makipagapalaran? Ikalawang katanungan Inyo po bang napag-aralan kung ilang milyon sa ating kababayan ang nariyan sa Pilipinas na walang mga trabaho? Mukhan di nyo po masyadong batid kung ilang libo o milyong Pilipino ang hanggang gayon ay walang trabaho sa Pilipinas, iyan po aang isang rason kung bakit kami naririto ngayon sa bansang ito.
Kung kami po ay mayaman sa ating bansa ano pang silbi ang pagkikipasapalaran namin manapa’y diyan na lang at makaksalimuha pa namin araw-araw ang aming mga pamilya. Subalit di po kami kagaya ninyo na kahit di kumayod ay mabubuhay, di po ba?
“Sa katunayan, kauuwi pa lamang ni Albert Bacani, isang Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) noong Sabado matapos pakawalan ng mga kumidnap sa kanya sa Nigeria. Si Bacani at ang kanyang katrabaho na taga-Colombia ay nabawi ng mga awtoridad sa Nigeria sa isang tulay sa Port Harcourt alas-singko ng umaga ( Manila time). Kinidnap ang dalawa noong ika-27 ng Setyembre sa kanilang pinagtatrabuhan, ang SAIPEM petrochemical complex sa Port Harcourt , River State , Nigeria .”
Di po siya nabawi ng mga Awtoridad kundi pinawalan po at wala pong pakikipagbarilan o dahas na nangyari noong makuha si Ginoong Bacani. Maging ang may katawan na si G. Bacani ay gusto pa ring bumalik dito Pero bakit di siya pinakikinggan ng ating mga awtoridad (DFA, POEA, DOLE).
“Maaaring hindi ninyo alam na matagal nang suspendido ng Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) ang pagpoproseso ng mga kontrata sa trabaho para sa Nigeria. Ang “ban” na ito ay mananatili hanggang hindi nanunumbalik ang katiwasayan sa nasabing bansa. Malaking sakit din kasi ng ulo ng gobyerno ng Nigeria ang pangki-kidnap ng mga manggagawang galing sa ibang bansa. Lagpas na sa 200 ang nakidnap ng mga rebeldeng grupo at mga sindikatong kriminal mula pa noong 2005.”
Kung akin pong natatandaan nitong pag pasok po ng taong kasalukuyan ibinaba ang memorandum ng “total deployment ban” sa bansang Nigeria . Dahil na rin sa aming masugid na pakikiusap hanggang si G. Conejos at bumisita dito at nakita niya ang totoong sitwasyon ng bansa, ang “total ban” ay kinasela at pinalitan ng tinatawag na “partial ban” na kung saan ang manggagawang may kasaluyang kontrata ay pwede pa ring pumasok at magproseso sa POEA (Bago po kayo magsulat ay maari po bang inyo saliksikin munang mabuti ang mga sunod-sunod na pangyayari para di po kayo mapahiya). At ang mga bagong proseso ang siyang lang po nasasakop sa “total Ban”.
Opo, ang kredibilidad ng pamahalaan ng Nigeria ang nakasalalay sa buong mundo tungkol sa usaping ito. Subalit ang isa pang katanungan, Sa dinami-dami ng mga ibat-ibang lahi ang nagtatrabaho dito bakit ang Pilipinas lang po ang siyang nagbaba ng kautusang “TOTAL BAN”? Baka ho kayo kaya ninyong sagutin ito kasi mas malapit po kayo sa kaldero ‘ika nga.
Dahil po sa kautusang iyan malaki po ang nawawala sa ating bansa una karamihan po na mga kompanya dito ay nais na mga Pilipino ang kanila manggagawa subalit dahil nga sa kahirapang makakuha ng manggagawa na nanggagaling pa sa ating bansa napilitan po silang kumuha ng ibang lahi. Samakatuwid talagang malaking kawalan nito di lang sa ating mga manggagawa kundi sa buong Pilipinas.
“Idadagdag ko pa rito ang pangangailangan na magbantay tayo laban sa mga pekeng recruitment na idinaraan sa Internet. Scams lang po ang mga ito.
Maging ang embahada ng Pilipinas sa Abuja, Nigeria, ay nagbigay na rin ng babala sa lahat ng mga Pilipino laban sa mga pekeng job offers na idinaraan sa e-mail. Sindikato lang po ang mga ito at dapat na iwasan. Ginamit pa nga raw ng mga sindikato ang letterhead ng Philippine Mission para makahingi ng processing fees para sa mga pekeng trabaho.”
Alam na po ito ng nakakaraming naririto mula pa po noong taong 2004 hanggang sa kasalukuyan. subalit di po ba kayo nagtataka na sa kabila ng lahat ng ito marami pa rin ang gustong pumunta dito sa Nigeria . Ayaw ko na pong ipahayag sa inyo ng buong detalya at ang inyong Staff na lang po ang magsaliksik nito.
“Susog pa rito, sinuportahan ko rin ang hiling ng DFA na dagdag na pondo para sa mga OFW. Halimbawa, ‘yon kay OWWA Administrator Marianito Roque, may 4,000 OFWs ngayon sa Nigeria.
Napakarami nila pero ang tauhan natin sa embahada ay ni hindi humihigit sa dalawampu. Tama lamang na dagdagan natin ang badyet ng labor at foreign affairs departments para matiyak ang mabilis at epektibong pagtulong sa ating mga OFWs.”
G. Roxas siguro po batid nyo po na di lang dito sa Nigeria nangangailangan ng tulong ang ating mga OFW, at di lang din po sa ating Embahada sa Nigeria ang may kakulangang mga tauhan kundi lahat po na Pasuguan. Ay bakit po kayo naka tutok sa Nigeria dapat po sa lahat dahil maaring ang nangyayari dito sa amin ay di rin malayong mangyari sa iba nating kabayan sa ibat-ibang panig ng mundo. Wag nyo pong saabihin mayroon kayong kinikilingan
“Ano ang mapapala ng ating mga OFW kung ulit-ulitin natin silang tawaging “modern-day heroes”, o mga “bagong bayani”, kung hindi naman natin sila tinutulungan? Sa bandang huli po, mas mahalaga pa rin ang gawa kaysa salita.”
Hanggang ngayon po di po namin nararamdaman ang mga sinasabing BAGONG BAYANI. Kasi sa aming nakikita kung kailan lang may kailangan ang ating pamahalaan sa amin bilang OFW tsaka lamang pinatataba ang aming puso at tintawag na mga BAGONG BAYANI. Kagaya nitong nanagyayari ngayon di inialintana o tinutugunan ng ating pamahalaan ang aming mga hina-ing at pakiusap.
Muli po aking ibubuod
1. Mayroon po bang trabaho kaming makukuha kung kami’y uuwi diyan?
2. Malawak ang Nigeria at hindi po buong bansan ang apektado ng kidnapping (papano na lang po yung nasa Abuja , Lagos at ibang parte ng Nigeria na di nasasakop ng Niger Delta)?
3. Dahil sa kahilingan ng mga manggagawa ang dating total ban na unang ibinabang kautusan ay naging Partial ban po subalit sa ano kadahilanan at di po lingid ng ating Pasuguan sa Nigeria ito’y muling naging “TOTAL BAN”.
4. Kung kami po’y tinuturing ninyo na bagong bayani marapat lang po na sa halip na iyong suportahan ang panukalang “total BAN” at pakinggan ninyo ang pulso ng manggagawa na narito sa bansang Nigeria, kung ano ang nararapat. Matagal at marami na po kaming tiniis luha at dugo na po ang aming puhunan at naman po ninyong dagdag pa ‘ika nga sa ingglis ADDING INSULT TO INJURY.
Sana po ay magkaroon kayo ng panahon na basahin ang aming mga hina-ing.

Pag aralan dapat mabuti, Busisiin ang job offer muna, Mag tanong sa mga andirito na, wala namang kabayad bayad ang aming mga sagot, kung sa Port Harcourt ang jobsite, may mga tropa tayo doon, kung sa Lagos naman, andirito lang kami, kung sa Bonny Island, abay lalong makapal doon ang mga Pinoy kung bogus ba ang mga address na nakalagay doon, o pangalan ng kompanya.
“Magulo roon lalo na sa Niger Delta”. Naman naman….May gulo po, di po lahat na parte ay magulo, iyon ang totoo, tuloy po ang pagtitinda doon at pagpapasok ng mga estudyante hanggang sa ngayon. Hindi po sarado ang airport nila. Kung sasakay ka po sa eroplano sa alinman sulok ng Nigeria, abay mantakin mo, halos kalahati ng mga pasahero ay mga expats, madaming maluluging negosyo kung makikigaya sa Pilipinas ang mga ibang bansa , kaya nga kapag nakakausap kami dito ng ibang nasyon kung tunay nga ba na bawal bumalik, alam mo ang sabi “HA!!!” sabay iling….
Iyong payong kapatid mo na makipag sapalaran sa sariling bayan, gawin mo na lang kayang magbakasyon sa sariling bayan at di na kailangan pang mag Hongkong o Singapore o Malaysia kaya.
Ang “ban” na ito ay mananatili hanggang hindi nanunumbalik ang katiwasayan sa nasabing bansa. Diyan ka may tulog, kasi halalan na uli bago mo makitaan ng katiwasayan. unahin muna natin na maging matiwasay ang Pilipinas, wag mo nang sakupin pa ito at tapos na ang termino mo ay wala pang liwanag na mangyayari. Kami ang andirito at makakapag sabi niyan at makakapag patotoo.
Doon mo ako pinabilib lang sa sinabi mong sumoporta ka sa dagdag na pondo, kailangan talaga iyan, pera ang kailangan para sa karagdagan operational expenses, di kailangan ng madaming tao, pampasikip lamang iyan, dadami pa ang kawkaw, para sa gayon, kung meron mang naganap na mga insidente na di kanais nais, madali na mapupuntahan agad ng mga tauhan ng embahada natin, napakahirap gumalaw kung pasuno suno lamang, kung patawag tawag lang sa telepono, dapat pisikal na makakadaupang palad nila ang mga biktima, pampalakas ng loob ika nga.
Ano naman ang mapapala namin kung pabalik balik pa din kami sa Nigeria, kahit na meron pang namumuong gusot, madami kaming mapapapala , kabilang na ang mga pamilya namin, at iyon ay sa maganda.
Wala kaming mapapala na biyaya sa inyo niyan na mga kumokontra sa pag aalis ng ban, kahalintulad iyan sa boto ko sa iyo noong halalan na ginanap, ang balota ko ay wala dito sa Ikeja, Lagos na urna napapunta, kundi nandoroon sa urna sa Port Harcourt , di naman masasabi na nasayang, kasi nanalo ka naman nga pala eh.

Mas magulo at namumulubi pa nga Pilipinas tapos pagbawalan pa tau mangibang-bansa.
Ano kaya gusto nila? Maghirap tayo sa Pilipinas para lang sa kanilang ‘political agenda’? Para sabihin concerned sila?

Si G. Albert Bacani na nga mismo nag sabi na babalik pa rin sya sa Nigeria pagkatapos ng kanyang 2-weeks vacation dahil di naman daw sya natatakot sa work location nya. Mas takot pa yung naghihintay ng boto at pinag kakagastusan ng taong bayan na paswelduha.

Malaki ang hirap at naiiambag naming mga OFW sa ating Bansa para lumakas ang PISO, pabor sa ting bansa yan, sana paglakas ng PISO ay mabago rin naman ang presyo ng mga bilihin sa tin, pero ang ginagawa naman ng mga ganid na politiko ay ginagamit nila sa pansariling kapakanan. Siguro alam nyo ang nangyaring pamimigay(suhulan) sa mga Gobernador at Congressman noong nakarang huwebes ng tig 500 thou pesos(.5million) sa bawat isang Politiko na inimbitahan ni Ginang Arroyo.. Sana po Mr. Palengke, ito ang aksyunan ng mga kagaya nyo para naman tumaas ang antas ng Bansang Pilipinas..hindi po yung pagba-BAN ng TAO d2 sa Nigeria …

Iwasan ang job offers mula Nigeria

Isa lamang paalala sa ating mga kababayan na inaalok na magtrabaho sa Nigeria : Magulo roon lalo na sa Niger Delta. Mayroon na rin kasing mga Pilipino na na-kidnap ng mga rebeldeng grupo sa bansang iyon habang tahimik lamang na nagtatrabaho ang mga ito. Payong kapatid lamang, siguro’y mas mainam na dito na lamang kayo makipagsapalaran sa ating bayan.
Sa katunayan, kauuwi pa lamang ni Albert Bacani, isang Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) noong Sabado matapos pakawalan ng mga kumidnap sa kanya sa Nigeria . Si Bacani at ang kanyang katrabaho na taga-Colombia ay nabawi ng mga awtoridad sa Nigeria sa isang tulay sa Port Harcourt alas-singko ng umaga ( Manila time). Kinidnap ang dalawa noong ika-27 ng Setyembre sa kanilang pinagtatrabuhan, ang SAIPEM petrochemical complex sa Port Harcourt , River State , Nigeria .
Maaaring hindi ninyo alam na matagal nang suspendido ng Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) ang pagpoproseso ng mga kontrata sa trabaho para sa Nigeria . Ang “ban” na ito ay mananatili hanggang hindi nanunumbalik ang katiwasayan sa nasabing bansa. Malaking sakit din kasi ng ulo ng gobyerno ng Nigeria ang pangki-kidnap ng mga manggagawang galing sa ibang bansa. Lagpas na sa 200 ang nakidnap ng mga rebeldeng grupo at mga sindikatong kriminal mula pa noong 2005.
Idadagdag ko pa rito ang pangangailangan na magbantay tayo laban sa mga pekeng recruitment na idinaraan sa Internet. Scams lang po ang mga ito.
Maging ang embahada ng Pilipinas sa Abuja , Nigeria , ay nagbigay na rin ng babala sa lahat ng mga Pilipino laban sa mga pekeng job offers na idinaraan sa e-mail. Sindikato lang po ang mga ito at dapat na iwasan. Ginamit pa nga raw ng mga sindikato ang letterhead ng Philippine Mission para makahingi ng processing fees para sa mga pekeng trabaho.
Susog pa rito, sinuportahan ko rin ang hiling ng DFA na dagdag na pondo para sa mga OFW. Halimbawa, ‘yon kay OWWA Administrator Marianito Roque, may 4,000 OFWs ngayon sa Nigeria .
Napakarami nila pero ang tauhan natin sa embahada ay ni hindi humihigit sa dalawampu. Tama lamang na dagdagan natin ang badyet ng labor at foreign affairs departments para matiyak ang mabilis at epektibong pagtulong sa ating mga OFWs.
Ano ang mapapala ng ating mga OFW kung ulit-ulitin natin silang tawaging “modern-day heroes”, o mga “bagong bayani”, kung hindi naman natin sila tinutulungan? Sa bandang huli po, mas mahalaga pa rin ang gawa kaysa salita.

Hi! Nice to read what is going on from people overseas. I’ve stayed in the middle east (KSA) for more than 10 years had intermittently been posted in Milan, Italy while based in KSA was also posted in Nigeria for 1 year. Maybe I had stayed longer if the communications like this was available around us in our time (1982-1994). I am now in my mid-50’s and no longer intereted to work abroad. I am now connected with the Local Government Unit in Quezon, Palawan, Philippines.

Calling all the mighty OFW’s (again) to unite and petition DOLE and/or POEA to withdraw the recent POEA Memorandum Circular No. 4 Series of 2007 - Guidelines on the Direct Hiring of Filipino Workers.
To the honorable and distinguished Philippine Senators,
News of the recent stricter guidelines on the direct hiring of Filipino workers overseas set forth by the POEA-DOLE effective 15Jan2008 swiftly traveled and reverberated all over the country and across the seas raising deep sense of trepidations and worldwide consternation over the inevitably negative paradigm implications to us OFWs.
For and in behalf of the current OFWs, and those aspiring to be, we seek your kind assistance on related issues we are confronting. In this regard, we would like to share with you a few of our collective thoughts and perceptions on the attached Memo Circular.
The circumstances bellowing from the context of this Circular, in effect, would discourage and deter a spectrum of prospective foreign employers from hiring Filipinos. Forthrightly, the mere fact that if propective employers compare the mandatory hiring requirements between the Filipino applicants with those from other asian/third country nationals in the same category/position the chances of the Filipino applicants are at a disadvantage thus the possibility of not being hired increases. Likewise, the same fate could be experienced by employers and their Filipino employees of say a year or so if the renewed employment visas are issued to the latter subsequent to the 15Jan2008 promulgation/effectivity of the said Circular.
Moreover, there are those private individuals/entities with limited financial resources in the short term which might not meet the tougher requirements thus ending up direct hiring other asian/third country nationals in the same category/position. There are also numerous employers, i.e. private individuals/entities/sectors, corporations, etc might require direct hiring with immediate deployment and there are those employers that pay much higher than normal wages, provide benefits/incentives and personnel insurances (meeting international standards) but do not want to engage in the tougher and uncompromising mandatory requirements and the ”nitty-gritty” red-tape scenarios/processes stipulated in the Circular.
One of my colleagues said, “The DOLE should be the rightful authority that should have drafted and promulgated the Circular which could have been prepared properly, profound and stupendous in context.” In fairness to the author of the circular, and to the POEA as a whole, we know the good intentions envisaged during its drafting; however, the status quo should have been seriously and adequately studied, meticulously researched, scrutinized and consultations conducted to give sustainable justice to the OFWs and very much so to the Memo Circular as well prior to promulgation and implementation. We inferred that this POEA new Circular was ill-prepared, superficial in context, contains loopholes, and insensitive to the dreams, aspirations, core values and basic principles of countless OFWs and would be’s for that matter. Furthermore, it negates, provides a deterrent and adds to the burgeoning burdens to both the employers’ and OFWs’/Filipino applicants’ intentions to enter into contract agreements. We consider this a parody in the making that fell short of expectations whereby employers, OFWs and aspiring applicants alike could be at greater risks by ending up as preys to predators under the guise of the so-called recognized authorities and agencies.
We anticipated more from the authorities of the POEA, DOLE and the Philippine consulates, attaches and embassies around the world; to rise up to the occasion as adjudicators, protectors and benefactors of those OFWs who ended up being inhumanely treated, abused, financially deprived by their employers and/or those who died while under employment overseas. Basically, the common awareness and sentiments are that sadly these government organizations/institutions are becoming more protective of their employees rather than the constituencies they serve, generally the OFWs. By the same token, the POEA should fully perform its functions as facilitator. Nonetheless, we are not against the POEA becoming a recruitment agency, regulator, funds collection agent and/or an insurance institution; however, its jurisdiction, duties, responsibilities and obligations should be clear-cut with those of the DOLE and OWWA. What we are against is when the POEA intends to venture and diversify over and beyond its capabilities rendering itself, with absolute certainty, susceptible to abuse of authority and lack of performance by its personnel. The irony of the matter is that the OFWs have been bestowed with the accolade as the living “MGA BAGONG BAYANI NG BAYAN” but in reality the honor and recognition are perceived to have less significance to the government authorities. The manifestations are quite clear and obvious which deprive us, the OFWs, the respect and dignity we deserve.
Having mentioned all the above, we would like to request the Senate to review the Circular and possibly repeal the same then look into other ways and means to circumvent the abuses and ill-intents by employers while strengthening the OFWs’ resolve, dreams and aspirations.
Also, we would like to request the Senate to engage all the authorities of the POEA, DOLE and the Philippine consulates, attaches and embassies around the world to be potent and resolute in performing their duties and responsibilities; and more involved in rendering their services, police functions and assistance in alleviating the hassles, hardships, abuses and misfortunes being experienced by some OFWs.
We are relying on faith and the goodwill of our leaders in the Senate whom we know have the compassion to champion our resolve. With your help, we know the best solutions/strategies to the pertinent issues are forthcoming although we are raising our awareness to counter the imminent implications and preparing ourselves for the long haul ahead.
Finally, we are hoping that our requests be part of the “first order of the day” when the Senate re-convenes its session. Thanking you all so much for the kind indulgence.

DoLE secretary’s approval now required for direct hires

MANILA, Philippines — Foreign employers who want to directly hire Filipino workers need to have their applications screened by the labor attaché or the Philippine embassy and approved by the Secretary of Department of Labor and Employment.
Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Memorandum Circular No. 4, which takes effect January 15, also requires employers to provide a performance bond ! equivalent to the worker’s salary for three months, a $5,000 repatriation bond, and medical insurance.
The circular, which details the stricter documentation and processing requirements, allows direct hiring for members of the diplomatic corps and of international organizations, government officials of ministerial level, and employers who are hiring on a one-time or trial basis.
It limits the number of direct-hire employees to no more than five.
Labor Secretary Arturo Brion, who is also chairman of the POEA board, said these new guidelines would provide more protection for direct-hire overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The new rule specifies that employers who do not want to comply with the bonding and insurance requirements, or with the standard employment contract, will not be allowed to hire OFWs directly. They may do so only through licensed placement agencies willing to assume responsibility for the employees, including payment of salaries and other employment benefits.
Brion said OFWs with employment contracts and work visas issued after January 15, 2008 will be covered by the new guidelines.
Direct hires are usually household service workers (HSWs) who tend to be abused by their employers. POEA guidelines on HSWs, requiring them to train in household work and the host country’s language, will still apply to them.
But recruitment agencies are criticizing the circular as another procedural layer that would cost more for employers and hinder the deployment of OFWs.
Emmanuel Geslani, consultant to the recruitment industry and several licensed agencies, said the new guidelines will reduce the chances of OFWs finding employers through their own efforts.
He said foreign employers will be turned off by the bonds required of them.
Previously the contract for direct hires needed only verification from labor attachés.
