Sarmiento Resigns Task Force Maguindanao: An Alternate Theory

In the case of Rene Sarmiento, before suddenly becoming “sick”, I think he was the only Commissioner left in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that had a semblance of credibility left. That is, of course, until he became “sick” and resigned from being the head of “Task Force Maguindanao” which was assigned to investigate the anomalies in Maguindanao, the same task force that will also investigate Lintang Bedol, the election supervisor for Maguindanao.

Seeing that the Comelec still needs at least some form of credibility after the elections, and knowing that whoever will head Task Force Maguindanao will need to sweep all the anomalies under the rug, could it be that Comelec and MalacaƱang decided to spare Sarmiento all this scandal in Maguindanao and maintain his credibility with the public?

But now that the Lanao Del Sur Election Return Scandal surfaced, I think that Sarmiento’s credibility has already been shot with the public. No matter what the reason really was for Sarmiento’s resignation from Task Force Maguindanao, I’m still not buying the “I’m sick” excuse.

But in any case, the Comelec, is a body that has long since lost its credibility in any decision that it makes. Pandering to the political will of MalacaƱang is hardly being independent.
