Climbing the Political Ladder

The Political Ladder

In light of all these dismissals, graft and corruption charges, and the sad impeachment of politicians including Erap… I ask myself a question. Is it possible to climb to the top unscathed? Is it possible to rise to the top and come out clean? Or do you have to succumb to external influences, evil ones in particular, in order to succeed in politics?

Late of last year, I had written an article that I actually never published here at Tingog.com, and it was titled “The Curse of The Filipino President”, inquiring if there was a curse associated with the Presidency here in The Philippines.

It seems that you come in clean as a whistle and a hero to the masses upon entering MalacaƱang, then come out the as the most hated person on the face of the entire archipelago. After all, when you’re at the top, you face intense scrutiny, unlike that of smaller offices of the land, and there are bound to be some skeletons that fall out of that closet… maybe you should use a better padlock, you say? I’m not so sure about that.

But, now with the recent gunslinging of The Department of Interior and Local Governments (DILG), you start to think if maybe the curse has somehow trickled down all the way to the individual public offices in The Philippines… what’s next? will the janitors start to face impeachment?

So, we come back to the question, can we be elected and govern without a speck of dirt on our hands? Or do you need the money of corrupt businessmen, and the help of corrupt politicians to boost yourself to the top? Do you need to ease the restrictions of government oversight so that you can help your subordinates and allies gain monetarily in whatever scam they are undertaking?

Sadly, it looks as though this is the blueprint that successful politicians are framing their careers on.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I know there are honest politicians and government officials out there, but are they a dying breed?
