Salute to Max Soliven
Narita, Japan. November 24, 2006. The great Filipino Journalist/Publisher died of Fatal Cardiac Arrest. He was 77 years old. Officially pronounced dead at 10:24(manila time) Nov. 24.
We have to take time to honor such a great Journalist of our time. Truly a great man and a great Filipino in general.
Maximo V. Soliven ( September 4, 1929 - November 24, 2006) was a prominent Filipino journalist and newspaper publisher. In a career that spanned six decades, he attained his greatest peak and influence with the Philippine Star, which he co-founded in 1986, and where he served as publisher until his death. His daily column published in the Star, titled “By The Way”, was one of the most widely read newspaper columns in the Philippines.
His death is sad, but let us celebrate his life as well.
The President said in a statement that Soliven was an “icon of freedom”,
In a tribute to Soliven, the President said the Philippines is “deeply saddened by the passage of an icon of freedom.”
“The post-war march could not have been as vibrant without Max Soliven, who fought beside the forces of enlightenment in the struggle against despotism and wrong,” she added.
Henry Kissinger says it all when he said “Max has walked with more heroes than Romulus and more heels than Adidas.”
