Death Of A Salesman

The selling of our democracy has been done on a wholesale basis. No longer are our votes bought on an individual basis, this is small stuff compared to the wholesale stealing of our votes. This is why, when I heard of the death of Wynne Asdala, the acting director of the Commission on Election’s legal department was shot dead in Manila, I couldn’t but feel nothing. Not shock, nor surprise, nothing. Sympathy, not even that. I don’t condone gang style deaths, it’s just that this time I didn’t feel any sympathy.

This was the death of a salesman. A salesman who sold votes to the highest bidder, who was in deep with the business of the vote and the theft of said vote.

Will we weep, as we wept for the death of our dear Musa Dimasidsing? No.

Asdala’s death was wrong, no one deserves such a death. But he had it coming. That, I cannot argue with. He led the life, and as in the mafia, someone always sleeps with the fishes. This time, the process was through a bullet. This was a murder, no need to ponder that question. As to the possibilities of motive, we can look to PCIJ for that,

The slain Comelec lawyer was also referred to in calls to Garcillano made by several anonymous persons, one believed to be Teng Mangudadatu, on June 14, June 16, and June 20.

Asdala’s predecessor at the Comelec legal department, Alioden Dalidig, was also gunned down in November last year near a casino at the Hyatt Hotel in Ermita, Manila. Unlike Asdala, Dalaig was only referred to in the “Hello, Garci” tapes in at least one phone call to Garcillano on June 16, 2004. (see transcript below)

Both Dalaig and Asdala’s murders are now being linked to unresolved electoral protests being handled by their department. Given the dubious distinction of being caught in the Garci recordings as part of an apparent network of electoral fraud whose hub then was Garcillano, the suspicions on the two, though unfortunate, cannot be shaken off that easily.

The network of salesmen are not working I guess, since those who are in it are being gunned down. Was this death right, NO. I believe this was business, and poor Asdala couldn’t make business work. He put himself in this situation, he has himself partly to blame. I cannot feel sympathy for this man, I don’t know why exactly. Murder is never a proper end to a person’s life, but then again, he should have known what he was getting himself into.

He chose his way of life, he should have known the possibilities of this type of outcome.

One Response to “Death Of A Salesman”

  1. how dare you accuse some1 whom you dont know personally to be like a traitor to this nation, who sells the votes of the people..when all he did was 2 serve his office without in anytime left for another suitable job w/c would not put his life in danger. shame in your reckless journalism! do you have sufficient evidence that he have been living his life in a bed of roses? all you have are unproven hearsays regarding the garci tapes. all you rely on are but shaky accusations and shame on you for not feeling any sympathy at all, not even for the family he left behind because you are not in any way a human person! you dont deserve to be called one! before you raise an article regarding any matter, have sufficient proof and not just accusations in degrading an already dead person’s character..i do not believe such a person could exist with such cruelty and evil. but you’ve proven me wrong because you are that person.. shame on you! if this happened to your family would you not feel the pain that while you and your family are grieving for the loss of a loved one,an irresponsible, imprudent stranger would say things that would degrade the character of a murdered person! i hope this would not happen to you or your family. when tragedy strikes to you or your family, its called bad karma! shame on you!
