110th Death Anniversary of our National Hero:Jose Rizal

Today we honor the 110th anniversary of our beloved National Hero, Jose Rizal. It’s Rizal Day. Let us remember the ultimate sacrifice that he made for the nation that he so dearly loved. Let us remember that this nation is founded upon sacrifice and love of country. Our nationalism, love of country, and unselfish nature is what binds the Filipino People.

This year’s commemorative event with the theme: “Rizal ang Makabayan: Sa Isip, Sa Salita at Sa Gawa,” was highlighted by the raising of the Philippine flag at the Bantayog ni Rizal at the Liwasang Burnham at 7 a.m earlier this morning.

It seems to me to always be appropriate that we end each year by celebrating not only the death, but the life of this great man. Because as we end this year filled with political turmoil and natural disasters, we still face a new year ahead. And that is what the death of our beloved national hero brings us. A chance to reflect on our heritage, the past year, as well as to bring hope to the coming new year.

In 2007 my thoughts are only this: May God Bless The Filipino People and The Philippines, the land we call home.
