About
Can one website change the course of a nation?
Tingog is the Visayan word for Voice. And in that respect, my main goal is to give voice and a platform for Filipinos to give their viewpoints on Philippine issues, people, the country, basically anything and everything to do with the Philippines. If you are a Filipino, I welcome and ask for your Voice.
However, this blog is a personal blog, writing mostly on political issues and on social commentary. For a more collective look on the issues, I suggest you also go to Filipino Voices, a collaborative blog written by some of the most talented, influential, and thoughtful bloggers of our time, including contributors from mainstream media as well.
The Founder
Hi. My name’s Nick. I’m a person with opinions. And I am not alone when I say that I have opinions. We all have our own views, our own motives, our own likes and dislikes, and our own thoughts.
My passion is everything Filipino, Philippines, and Pinoy. Yes, I know. All three are synonymous, but it gives you an idea as to the extent of my passion. I believe that we can all make a difference, I believe that we should try to make a difference, and I know that there are individuals right now making a difference.
There are too many social issues to confront, and hopefully with the help of this website, we can contribute to the change, the positive change that this nation so desperately needs. Share your views and opinions. Motivate. Inspire. Because we are Filipinos, and to us, the pen is truly mightier than the sword.
Update: May 21, 2008
I believe in this new medium as much as I believe in the old media. Blogging is a form of expression, a way of living, and a way of writing. I write opinions, so you are free to agree or disagree with my assertions on the issues, my only request is that you comment with as deep a conviction as I write my articles. I am a deep advocate of blogging in this new age, the connections we make, the impact we can make, and the wave of pertinent information that has become this massive world we call the blogosphere.
On a personal note, I am indeed from Cebu as well as Samar. A pure-blooded Visayan if you ever saw one. I can speak Tagalog, Bisaya, Waray, and of course English. I only write in English because it feels more natural to me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love my mother tongue.
I graduated in Engineering from The University of San Carlos, in Cebu Philippines. Thus, I am an engineer, a music lover, and a Filipino through and through. This is my blog, my piece of real estate in this chaotic and vast world we call the internet.
And yet, even with my thoughts so public, I still would like a sense of privacy. I have never had any need for the limelight, or to be noticed, or to be famous. But believe me, I am proud of who I am, what I am, and the person I have become.
I currently reside in The United States of America, a land I have known since I was a child, I’ve probably spent more years here, than I have in The Philippines. But that doesn’t mean I don’t know my own country. I love The Philippines, I cannot say that enough. In total, I have probably spent 15 years in The Philippines.
My need to blog, did not evolve from a need to write a personal account of my days, but rather, it came about because I had this deep need inside of myself, to contribute to a better Philippines. The goal, therefore, is to concentrate on politics and social commentary, because these are areas that interest me the most.
And although, I do plan to one day, be active in the politics of The Philippines, whether public or in the private sector, I knew that with blogging, I could start now. Why wait, when today is as good a day as any to start making a difference.
And that’s what I plan to do. And so, this blog is about the issues, opinions, views, and a side of personal struggles with these views and opinions — of an engineer, and of a Filipino who is still a romantic, that has the love of his life, The Philippines, always in his thoughts.
